ศาลพระกาฬ หรือเดิมเรียกว่า ศาลสูง เนื่องจากศาลตั้งอยู่บนฐานศิลาแลงที่อยู่สูงจากพื้นดิน[1] เป็น

ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2495 ได้มีการสร้างศาลพระกาฬขึ้นใหม่เนื่องจากเรือนไม้สังกะสีเดิมได้ทรุดโทรมลง ศาลพระกาฬหลังใหม่จึงถูกออกแบบด้วยสถาปัตยกรรมทรงไทยร่วมสมัยของกรมศิลปากรสมัยหม่อมเจ้ายาใจ จิตรพงศ์ เป็นหัวหน้ากองสถาปัตยกรรม[5] มีชลอ วนะภูติ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดลพบุรีเป็นหัวเรี่ยวหัวแรงสำคัญร่วมกับองค์กรอื่น ๆ รวมทั้งชาวลพบุรีและผู้ศรัทธาจำนวนมาก[5] ก่อสร้างสำเร็จในปี พ.ศ. 2496[6] ใช้งบประมาณการก่อสร้างสามแสนบาทเศษ ซึ่งดูเด่นเป็นสง่า ณ บริเวณหน้าฐานพระปรางค์โบราณ[5]
