ทันตแพทย์ คือ แพทย์สาขาหนึ่งที่มีความเชี่ยวชาญในด้านช่องปากและฟัน ทันตแพทย์มีหน้าที่ป้องกันและรักษาความผิดปกติที่เกิดขึ้นกับช่องปากและฟัน ผมคิดว่าทันตแพทย์ต้องเป็นคนที่มีอดทนและความเสียสละสูงมาก เพราะการที่ต้องมาเรียนในสาขาทันตแพทย์ต้องใช้ความรู้มาก ต้องมีการเรียนรู้ที่มากขึ้นกว่าอาชีพอื่น ใช้เวลาเรียนนานมาก มีการฝึกปฏิบัติที่ต้องใช้ความอดทนแล้วนำความรู้ความสามารถที่ได้มารับบริการให้แก่ประชาชน สำหรับทันตแพทย์ในความคิดของกระผม คือ ทันตแพทย์ที่มีใจรักในการบริการ มีการทำงานที่เต็มความสามารถ คำนึงถึงประโยชน์ของประชาชนเป็นหลัก รับใช้บริการทุกๆคนอย่างเท่าเทียมกัน ไม่มีอคติว่าเป็นทันตแพทย์แล้วมีสิทธิ์เลือกว่าทำงานให้กับคนรวยหรือไม่รับบริการคนจน มีความเป็นห่วงเป็นใยในคนไข้ไม่มองคนไข้ว่าเป็นสิ่งของ ต้องรู้สึกว่าคนไข้ก็มีหัวใจและมีความเป็นมนุษย์ เพราะการที่คนไข้มาพบทันตแพทย์เขาคงมีปัญหาหรือข้อข้องใจที่ต้องการจะปรึกษาหรือให้ทำการรักษาเพื่อแก้ปัญหาให้ทุเลาหรือหมดไป ซึ่งเหมือนบางทีทันตแพทย์มีปัญหาในเรื่องกฎหมายต้องไปปรึกษาทนายความ ย่อมต้องการคำปรึกษาที่ดีและได้รับการพูดจาหรือการคำแนะที่ดีเหมือนกัน มีการทำงานอย่างเต็มความสามารถ เพราะคนไข้ได้คาดหวังในตัวทันตแพทย์สูงมากในการดำเนินการรักษา การทำงานอย่างเต็มที่นอกจากจะทำให้งานประสบความสำเร็จแล้วยังสร้างความพึงพอใจให้กับคนไข้ด้วย เพราะคนไข้บางคนมีฐานะยากจนหากทันตแพทย์ทำให้รักษาให้ไม่ดี ทำให้เขาต้องมาพบทันตแพทย์อีกแต่ติดที่ว่าเขามีฐานะยากจน การที่จะมาพบทันตแพทย์บ่อยๆ อาจเป็นไปไม่ได้ และทันตแพทย์ในดวงใจอีกอย่างในความคิดของผม คือ การคำนึงถึงประโยชน์ของประชาชนเป็นหลัก เพราะค่าเล่าเรียนส่วนหนึ่งของนักศึกษาทันตแพทย์คือเงินที่ได้มาจากการเก็บภาษีของประชาชน ดังนั้น เมื่อทันตแพทย์เรียนจบออกมาก็ควรจะมารับใช้ประชาชน ดังที่ความต้องการของรัฐบาลและประชาชน ใช่แต่จะคิดว่า จบออกมาแล้วจะไปเปิดคลินิกเพื่อทำให้ตนเองรวยขึ้น เพราะยังมีประชาชนอีกเยอะที่รอทันตแพทย์เหล่านี้อยู่ ลองมองคิดถึงว่า ถ้าไม่มีประชาชนที่เสียภาษีให้รัฐบาลเราต้องจ่ายค่าเล่าเรียนเอง บางที่พ่อแม่ผู้ปกครองของนักศึกษาทันตแพทย์อาจไม่มีทุนเหล่านี้ให้ก็ได้ แล้วท่านก็ควรจะคิดจะไปตอบแทนสังคมกันบ้าง
