ความเป็นมา

เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2477 ได้มีการจัดตั้งกองกรรมกรขึ้น ทำหน้าที่ด้านการจัดหางานและศึกษาภาวะความเป็นอยู่ของคนงานทั่วไป พ.ศ. 2499 รัฐบาลได้ ขยายกิจการด้านแรงงานสัมพันธ์มากขึ้นและประกาศใช้พระราชบัญญัติฉบับแรกในปี พ.ศ. 2508 และปีเดียวกันได้มีการตั้งกรมแรงงานขึ้น อีกทั้งประกาศใช้ พระราชบัญญัติกำหนดวิธีระงับข้อพิพาทแรงงาน ปัจจุบัน การบริหารแรงงานอยู่ในความรับผิดชอบของกระทรวงแรงงานและสวัสดิการสังคมมีงานสำคัญเกี่ยวข้อง กับแรงงานดังนี้
