เท่งเล่นลิเกอยู่หลายปีจึงเดินทางเข้ากรุงเทพฯเพื่อตั้งคณะตลกร่วมกับพี่ชายแต่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จ ต่อมาส้มเช้งน้องสาวได้ช่วยฝากฝั่งให้เท่งได้เข้าร่วมกับคณะตลกมะกอกสามตะกร้า เท่งทำอยู่หลายตำแหน่งตั้งแต่เด็กขนอุปกรณ์ มือกลองจนในที่สุดก็ได้เล่นเป็นตลกประจำคณะ เท่งอยู่คณะมะกอกสามตะกร้าได้ระยะหนึ่ง ก็ย้ายไปคณะสีแดง, คณะยอดธง และคณะชูศรี เชิญยิ้ม ตามลำดับ ในชื่อ ตู้ เชิญยิ้ม ต่อมาก็ออกมารวมตัวกับเพื่อนตั้งคณะใหม่ชื่อ "เพื่อนอิสระ" แต่ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จและถือว่าเป็นช่วงที่ชีวิตตกต่ำเป็นอย่างมาก จนกระทั่ง หม่ำ จ๊กมก ชักชวนไปร่วมคณะด้วย จึงทำให้เท่งได้มีโอกาสได้เข้าไปอยู่บริษัทเวิร์ดพอยท์ฯ ของปัญญา นิรันดร์กุล และได้ให้แสดงในรายการดังอย่าง ชิงร้อยชิงล้าน และระเบิดเถิดเทิง ในชื่อ "เท่ง เถิดเทิง"
ปัจจุบันเป็นนักแสดงตลกและพิธีกรในสังกัด รวมถึงเป็นผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ให้กับ บริษัท เวิร์คพอยท์ เอ็นเทอร์เทนเมนท์ จำกัด (มหาชน) รวมถึงได้รับรางวัล เอเชี่ยน เทเลวิชั่น อวอร์ด 2007 ประเภทนักแสดงตลกฝ่ายชายยอดเยี่ยม จึงได้รับฉายาว่า "ตลกเอเชีย" และ "ตลกอัจฉริยะ"
