ประวัติอำเภอแม่สาย
ป็นอำเภอเหนือสุดของจังหวัดเชียงรายและเหนือสุดของประเทศไทย ตั้งที่ว่าการที่ตำบลเวียงพางคำ ทิศเหนือจดแม่น้ำสายซึ่งกั้นเขตแดนระหว่างประเทศไทยกับประเทศพม่า ทิศตะวันออกติดต่อกับอำเภอเชียงแสนจังหวัดเชียงราย ทิศใต้ติดต่อกับอำเภอแม่จัน จังหวัดเชียงราย ทิศตะวันตกติดต่อกับอำเภอแม่ฟ้าหลวง จังหวัดเชียงราย และประเทศพม่า โดยมีด่านชายแดนไทย-พม่าเรียกว่า "ด่านแม่สาย" สามารถผ่านด่านข้ามไปยังจังหวัดท่าขี้เหล็กของพม่าได้โดยมีแม่น้ำสายเป็นพรมแดนทางธรรมชาติ การคมนาคมจากอำเภอเมืองเชียงรายไปอำเภอแม่สายโดยทางหลวงหมายเลข 1 (พหลโยธิน ตอนเชียงราย-แม่สาย) ระยะทาง 63 กิโลเมตร
