งานวิจัยนี้สรุปและอภิปรายผล 3 ประเด็น ดังต่อไปนี้
1. การแยกเสียงรวมเสียงวรรณยุกต์เปรียบเทียบกับภาษไทใต้คงถิ่นอื่นในเขตปกครองตนเองไทและจิ่งโพ มณฑลยูนนาน
จาก Edmondson (2008) พบว่าเสียงวรรณยุกต์ภาษาไทใต้คงอาศัยอยู่ที่เมืองหมังซื่อ เขตปกครองตนเองไทและจิ่งโพ มณฑลยูนนาน มี 6 หน่วยเสียง เสียงวรรณยุกต์ที่พัฒนาจากเสียงวรรณยุกต์ดั้งเดิม A จะแยกออกเป็น 3 เสียงวรรณยุกต์ คือ เสียงที่ 1 เป็นพยางค์ต้นที่สืบมาจากเสียงพยัญชนะดั้งเดิมที่เป็นเสียงไม่ก้องและเป็นเสียงกัก พ่นลม และเสียงเสียดแทรกจะมีเสียงวรรณยุกต์ [35] เสียงที่ 2 ถ้าพยางค์ต้นด้วยเสียงพยัญชนะกักไม่ก้อง ไม่พ่นลม และเป็นเสียงกักที่เส้นเสียง ซึ่งจะมีเสียงวรรณยุกต์ [33] และเสียงที่ 3 ถ้าพยางค์ต้นที่สืบมาจากพยัญชนะดั้งเดิมก้องจะมีเสียงวรรณยุกต์ [55] สำหรับเสียงวรรณยุกต์ดั้งเดิม B และ C ก็แตกออกเป็น 2 เสียงวรรณยุกต์เหมือนกัน นอกจากนี้ วรรณยุกต์ที่อยู่ในช่อง B4 และช่อง A23 เสียงวรรณยุกต์กลมกลืนกัน ทำให้เหลือเสียงวรรณยุกต์ 6 เสียง

ผู้วิจัยศึกษาเปรียบเทียบเสียงวรรณยุกต์ภาษาไทใต้คงอาศัยอยู่ที่ เมืองหมังซื่อ เมืองโหล่งชวน และเมืองเหลียงเหอที่ในงานวิจัยนี้ พบว่าเสียงวรรณยุกต์ของภาษาไทใต้คงแต่ละที่มีเสียงวรรณยุกต์ 6 เสียง และการแยกเสียงรวมเสียงวรรณยุกต์เหมือนกัน จากตารางที่ 7 ดังต่อไปนี้
