ความเป็นมา

จึงทรงมีพระราชกระแสรับสั่งให้ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนราธิวาส และผู้ปกครองนิคมสร้างตนเองสุคิริน พิจารณาจัดตั้งหมู่บ้านศิลปาชีพขึ้นในเขตพื้นที่นิคมฯ สุคิริน โดยจัดที่ดินทำกินให้ครอบครัวละ ๓ ถึง ๕ ไร่ โดยดำเนินการในรูปแบบ “บ้านเล็กในป่าใหญ่” ให้คนอยู่อาศัยร่วมกับป่าได้อย่างสมดุล และส่งเสริมการประกอบอาชีพการเกษตร การปลูกพืชผักสวนครัวและงานศิลปาชีพต่าง ๆ ให้มีรายได้และมีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดีขึ้น

การดำเนินงานตามพระราชดำริ

นิคมสร้างตนเองสุคิริน ได้ร่วมกับหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องรวม ๑๗ หน่วยงาน ดำเนินโครงการนี้ตั้งแต่ปี ๒๕๓๘ เป็นต้นมา โดยร่วมกันจัดทำแผนแม่บทเพื่อดำเนินงานตามโครงการฯ มีเป้าหมายทั้งสิ้น ๕๐ ครัวเรือน และกรมประชาสงเคราะห์ได้อนุญาตให้นิคมฯ สุคิริน ใช้พื้นที่สงวนบริเวณบ้านไอปาโจหมู่ที่ ๑ ต.ภูเขาทอง อ.สุคิริน จำนวน ๗๕๐ ไร่ ทั้งนี้ได้ดำเนินการคัดเลือกบุตรหลาน ของสมาชิกศิลปาชีพที่ยากจนและราษฎรที่ยากจนในพื้นที่นิคมฯ สุคิรินรวมจำนวน ๓๕ ครอบครัว รวมทั้งมีการออกแบบ วางผังหมู่บ้านและพื้นที่ทำกิน ก่อสร้างสาธารณูปโภค และสาธารณูปการต่าง ๆ ภายในหมู่บ้าน
