เมื่อวันที่ 20 พฤษภาคม 2556 โรงเรียนบ้านไผ่ได้รับเกียรติบัตร และโล่รางวัลโรงเรียนสีเขียว โครงการสถานศึกษาต้นแบบได้การอนุรักษ์พลังงงานละสิ่งแวดล้อม “โรงเรียนสีเขียว”ประจำปี 2555ณ หอประชุมเกษม จาติกวนิจ สำนักงานใหญ่ กฟผ. จังหวัดนนทบุรี ซึ่งได้รับเกียรติจาก ดร. ชินภัทร ภูมิรัตน เลขาธิการคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน และนายสุทัศน์ ปัทมสิริวัฒน์ ผู้ว่าการการไฟฟ้าฝ่ายผลิตแห่งประเทศ (กฟผ.) เป็นผู้มอบเกียรติบัตรและโล่รางวัลในครั้งนี้
โรงเรียนบ้านไผ่ผ่านการประเมินเป็น “โรงเรียนสีเขียว”ประจำปี 2555เป็นลำดับที่ 5 ซึ่งมีเพียง 20โรงเรียน ที่ผ่านเกณฑ์การประเมิน ถือว่าเป็นการยืนยันได้เป็นอย่างดีว่าโรงเรียนบ้านไผ่ เป็นโรงเรียนที่มีโนบาย และระบบการดำเนินงานด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงานและสิ่งแวดล้อมที่เป็นรูปธรรม และมีการบูรณาการความรู้ด้านการอนุรักษ์พลังงานและสิ่งแวดล้อมไว้ในหลักูตรการเรียนการสอนสามารถนำไปใช้บริหารจักการโรงเรียนได้อย่างยั้งยืนและสามารถขยายผลสู่โรงเรียน และชุมชนใกล้เคียงเพื่อเป็นต้นแบบและเครือข่ายในการอนุรักษ์พลังงานและสิ่งแวดล้อม
และกิจกรรมค่ายห้องเรียนสีเขียวสัญจรกลุ่มอีสานเหนือ เมื่อวันที่ 2-4 ธันวาคม 2555 ณ ศูนย์ศึกษาการพัฒนาอันเนื่องมาจากพระราชดำริอ่าวคุ้งกระเบน จังหวัดจันทบุรี สร้างฐานกิจกรรมด้านอนุรักษ์พลังงานและสิ่งแวดล้อมประกอบด้วยโรงเรียนในกลุ่มอีสานเหนือ ร่วมกับการไฟฟ้าฝ่ายผลิตแห่งประเทศไทย (กฟผ.) โดยโรงเรียนบ้านไผ่ประธานกลุ่มอีสานเหนือ มีครูและนักเรียนเข้าร่วมกิจกรรม
