ร้อยตรี เจ้าอุตรการโกศล (ศุขเกษม ณ เชียงใหม่) หรือ เจ้าน้อยศุขเกษม (พ.ศ. 2423-พ.ศ. 2453) ราชโอรสองค์โตในเจ้าแก้วนวรัฐ กับแม่เจ้าจามรีมหาเทวี แห่งนครเชียงใหม่ เมื่ออายุได้ 15 ปี ถูกส่งไปศึกษาต่อที่โรงเรียนเซนต์แพทริค (St. Patrick′s School) ในเมืองมะละแหม่ง ประเทศพม่า เมื่อเจ้าน้อยฯ มีอายุ 19 ปี ได้ออกไปเดินเที่ยวในตลาดจึงพบ มะเมียะ (พ.ศ. 2430-พ.ศ. 2505) หญิงสาวชาวพม่า แม่ค้าขายบุหรี่อายุ 15 ปี ทั้งคู่ต่างก็ตกหลุมรักซึ่งกันและกัน จนกระทั่งได้ใช้ชีวิตอยู่ร่วมกันฉันสามีภรรยา โดยทั้งสองได้สาบานต่อกัน ณ ลานหน้าพระธาตุใจ้ตะหลั่นว่า จะรักกันตลอดไปและจะไม่ทอดทิ้งกัน หากผู้ใดทรยศต่อความรักที่มีให้กัน ก็ขอให้ผู้นั้นอายุสั้น

เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นทำให้มะเมียะและเจ้าน้อยฯ ต่างสะเทือนใจเป็นที่สุด หลังจากเหตุการณ์นั้นเจ้าน้อยฯ ก็ตรอมใจเอาแต่กินเหล้าและสิ้นชีพิตักษัยในอีกไม่กี่ปีต่อมา ส่วน มะเมียะ ได้ครองบวชเป็น แม่ชี จนกระทั่งถึงแก่กรรมในปี พ.ศ. 2505 รวมอายุได้ 75 ปี
