จริง ๆ แล้ว การให้ทานจะโดยหวังผลหรือไม่หวังผลก็เป็นเรื่องดีทั้งนั้น ดีกว่าไม่ให้ทาน จะหวังผลหรือไม่หวังผล แต่ละคนสามารถเลือกปฏิบัติได้ตามจริตอัธยาศัยของตน เช่น คนส่วนใหญ่ซึ่งปรารถนาอายุ วรรณะ สุขะ พละ ลาภ ยศ สรรเสริญ ก็ให้ทานแล้วอธิษฐานหวังในผลเหล่านี้ ทำให้ได้ดังใจปรารถนา ละโลกแล้วได้ไปเกิดบนสวรรค์

ประโยชน์ของการทำบุญมี ๓ ระดับ คือ
๑. ประโยชน์ชาตินี้ เช่น รวย สวย แข็งแรง อายุยืน มีชื่อเสียง ได้ยศถาบรรดาศักดิ์ เป็นที่รัก เป็นต้น
๒. ประโยชน์ชาติหน้า คือ ตายแล้วได้ไปเกิดบนสุคติโลกสวรรค์ มีทิพยสมบัติมาก
๓. ประโยชน์อย่างยิ่ง คือ ได้บรรลุธรรม



ดังนั้น เมื่อทำบุญแล้วตั้งจิตปรารถนาให้ผลดีเกิดขึ้น เราก็ต้องตั้งจิตให้เป็น มุ่งให้เกิดผลดี ทั้ง ๓ ระดับ เช่น อธิษฐานขอให้มีสุขภาพแข็งแรง อายุยืนยาว มีโภคทรัพย์สมบัติมาก ฉลาด คบแต่คนดี ได้ทำความดีตลอดชีวิต ตายแล้วได้บังเกิดบนสวรรค์ ได้บรรลุมรรคผลนิพพาน เป็นต้น

ฉันทะ เป็นสิ่งที่ดี พระพุทธเจ้าตรัสไว้ใน อิทธิบาทสี่ ธรรมะที่ทำให้งานสำเร็จ ก็เริ่มด้วยฉันทะ เพราะเมื่อเราเห็นประโยชน์จากการทำสิ่งนั้น ย่อมเกิดความพอใจ เต็มใจที่จะทำ ทำให้เกิดวิริยะความเพียรในการทำกิจต่าง ๆ
ฉันทะ จึงเป็นแรงจูงใจใฝ่สัมฤทธิ์ เช่น
เห็นประโยชน์ว่า เรียนหนังสือแล้วจะได้ความรู้ไปประกอบอาชีพได้ จึงทำให้ขยันเรียน
เห็นคุณและโทษว่า ถ้าทำบาปจะตกนรก ถ้าไม่ทำบาปแต่ทำบุญจะไปเกิดบนสวรรค์ จึงตั้งใจละความชั่วทำแต่ความดี

“เราชาวพุทธทุกคน จึงควรตั้งใจทำความดีทุกรูปแบบ
แล้วอธิษฐานจิต ให้อานิสงส์ผลบุญนั้น
นำสิ่งดี ๆ มาสู่ชีวิตของเราทั้งภพนี้ ภพหน้า”
