ประเพณีเดินขึ้นดอยสุเทพนี้จะจัดกันทุกปี ในคืนก่อนวันวิสาขบูชา ถือเป็นธรรมเนียมปฏิบัติของชาวเชียงใหม่ โดยลูกหลานชาวเชียงใหม่จะมาร่วมกันเดินขึ้นไปนมัสการพระธาตุดอยสุเทพ
