ปัจจุบันเวียดนามแบ่งลักษณะของการจัดการศึกษาไว้ 5 ลักษณะ คือ

1. การศึกษาระดับก่อนประถมศึกษา (Pre-School Education) ประกอบด้วยการเลี้ยงดูเด็ก สำหรับเด็กอายุ 6 เดือนถึง 3 ปี และอนุบาลสำหรับเด็กอายุ 3-5 ปี

2. การศึกษาสามัญ (5 - 4 – 3)

ระดับประถมศึกษาเป็นการศึกษาภาคบังคับ 5 ปี ชั้น 1-5
ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น คือชั้น 6-9
ระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย คือชั้น 10-12
3. การศึกษาด้านเทคนิคและอาชีพ มีเทียบเคียงทั้งระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นและตอนปลาย
