นอกจากนี้ยังมีดินแดนหลักๆบนแผ่นดินใหญ่ 2 แห่ง ได้แก่ นอร์เทิร์นเทร์ริทอรี และออสเตรเลียนแคพิทอลเทร์ริทอรี (เขตเมืองหลวง) และดินแดนเล็กน้อยอื่นๆ โดยส่วนใหญ่แล้ว ดินแดนนั้นมีลักษณะเดียวกับรัฐ แต่รัฐสภากลางสามารถค้านกฎหมายใดก็ได้จากสภาของดินแดน
