มีผู้ศึกษาเกี่ยวกับการงอกของเมล็ด โดยนำเมล็ดพืชไปแช่น้ำค้างคืน 1 คืนและเพาะในจานเพาะเชื้อที่มีกระดาษเยื่อชุ่มน้ำ แล้วแบ่งการทดลองออกเป็น 2 ชุด ทั้ง 2 ชุดตั้งไว้ที่อุหภูมิห้อง
ชุดที่ 1 ตั้งอยู่ที่มืดเป็นเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง
ชุดที่ 2 ตั้งอยู่ที่มืด 4 ชั่วโมง แล้วให้แสง 1 ชั่วโมง แล้วจึงนำไปไว้ในที่มืดอีก 19 ชั่วโมง
