ในปัจจุบันมีสถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารที่ได้ดำเนินการจัดให้มีและหรือจัดตั้งทั่วประเทศ รวมทั้งหมด 121 แห่ง โดยกรมการขนส่งทางบกดำเนินการ 90 แห่ง ปัจจุบันได้ถ่ายโอนให้แก่องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่น ดำเนินการ 88 แห่ง อยู่ระหว่างการดำเนินการถ่ายโอน 2 แห่ง เอกชนดำเนินการ 21 แห่ง บขส. ดำเนินการ 8 แห่ง ที่เหลือเป็นของเทศบาล 2 แห่ง และเมื่อพิจารณาในพื้นที่ศึกษามีสถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสาร 7 แห่ง ในพื้นที่ศึกษาทั้ง 7จังหวัด และกรมการขนส่งทางบกมีแผนจะจัดตั้งสถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารในพื้นที่ศึกษาเพิ่มขึ้นอีก 3 แห่ง ได้แก่ สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารจังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารอำเภอหัวหิน จังหวัดประจวบคีรีขันธ์ และสถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารจังหวัดพังงา
