ประวัติเจ้าพ่อพญาแล


พระยาภักดีชุมพล เดิมชื่อ"แล" เป็นชาวนครเวียงจันทน์ เคยรับราชการเป็นพี่เลี้ยงราชบุตรในเจ้าอนุวงศ์แห่งอาณาจักรล้านช้าง (ขณะนั้นเป็นประเทศราชของไทย) ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 2 พ.ศ. 2360 นายแลได้อพยพไพร่พลข้ามแม่น้ำโขงมาตั้งบ้านเรือนที่บ้านน้ำขุ่นหนองอีจาน (อยู่ในเขตอำเภอสูงเนิน จังหวัดนครราชสีมา) ต่อมาได้ย้ายไปตั้งใหม่ที่บ้านโนนน้ำอ้อม บ้านชีลอง (อยู่ในเขตอำเภอเมืองชัยภูมิ) และได้ทำราชการส่งส่วยต่อเจ้าอนุวงศ์ เจ้าอนุวงศ์จึงตั้งให้นายแลเป็นที่ขุนภักดีชุมพลนายกองนอก
ใน พ.ศ. 2365 ขุนภักดีชุมพลได้ย้ายชุมชนมาอยู่ที่บ้านหลวง ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างบ้านหนองหลอดกับบ้านหนองปลาเฒ่า ในเขตอำเภอเมืองชัยภูมิปัจจุบัน เนื่องจากสถานที่เดิมเริ่มคับแคบ ไม่พอกับจำนวนพลเมืองที่เพิ่มขึ้น
