วัชระ เกิดเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2519 ที่จังหวัดสมุทรสงคราม ในวัยเด็กชื่นชอบธรรมชาติรอบตัว จึงทำให้เริ่มสนใจในธรรมชาติวิทยาและสัตววิทยา โดยชื่นชมและติดตามผลงานของ นายแพทย์บุญส่ง เลขะกุล นักธรรมชาติวิืทยาและนักอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติที่มีชื่อเสียง [1]
จบการศึกษาจากคณะวนศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ ในปี พ.ศ. 2541 โดยมีผลงานการเขียนบทความเกี่ยวกับสัตว์ป่าลงในนิตยสารต่าง ๆ ขณะที่ยังศึกษาอยู่ชั้นปีที่ 3 มาก่อนแล้ว[2] รับราชการในตำแหน่งนักวิชาการผู้เชี่ยวชาญเรื่องนกและวิทยาสัตว์เลี้ยงลูกด้วยนม ประจำพิพิธภัณฑ์ธรรมชาติวิทยา ในสังกัดองค์การพิพิธภัณฑ์วิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติ โดยมีหน้าที่ดูแลตัวอย่างของนกและสัตว์เลี้ยงด้วยนมต่าง ๆ[1]
นอกจากนี้แล้วยังเป็นนักดูนกที่มีชื่อเสียง เคยค้นพบ นกเด้าลมแม่น้ำโขง (Motacilla samveasnae) ซึ่งเป็นนกชนิดใหม่ของโลกในปี พ.ศ. 2544 และได้เขียนหนังสือ 2 เล่ม ร่วมกับ ดร.จารุจินต์ นภีตะภัฏ และ นายสัตวแพทย์กานต์ เลขะกุล ผู้ซึ่งเป็นหลานชายของ นพ.บุญส่ง เกี่ยวกับการดูนกซึ่งเป็นภาษาไทย อันเป็นเจตนารมณ์ของ นพ.บุญส่ง ก่อนเสียชีวิตอีกด้วย[3]
นอกจากนี้แล้ว ยังได้เป็นสุดยอดแฟนพันธุ์แท้ดูนกถึง 2 ปีติดต่อกัน ในรายการเกมโชว์แฟนพันธุ์แท้ ทางช่อง 5 ในปี พ.ศ. 2546 และ ปี พ.ศ. 2550 ซึ่งในการแข่งขันแฟนพันธุ์แท้แห่งปี ยังได้เข้ารอบลึก ๆ อีกด้วย
