ลักษณะทางภูมิศาสตร์

การเมืองการปกครอง
เวียดนามปกครองด้วยระบอบสังคมนิยม โดยมีพรรคคอมมิวนิสต์เวียดนาม (Communist Party of Vietnam: CPV) เป็นพรรคการเมืองเพียงพรรคเดียวในประเทศ โครงสร้างการปกครองของเวียดนามแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ระดับคือ
*สภาแห่งชาติ (The National Assembly หรือ Quoc-Hoi) เป็นองค์กรฝ่ายนิติบัญญัติ มีอำนาจในการแก้ไขรัฐธรรมนูญและการออกกฎหมายต่างๆ นอกจากนี้ ยังมีอำนาจให้ความเห็นชอบในการแต่งตั้งและถอดถอนประธานาธิบดี นายกรัฐมนตรีและรองนายกรัฐมนตรี
*องค์กรฝ่ายบริหาร ทำหน้าที่กำหนดนโยบายและบริหารประเทศ
*รัฐบาลท้องถิ่น (People’s Committee of Province) เวียดนามมีสภาประชาชนและคณะกรรมการประชาชนประจำท้องถิ่นเป็นองค์กรบริหารสูงสุดประจำท้องถิ่น โดยรัฐบาลท้องถิ่นจะบริหารงานตามกฎหมายรัฐธรรมนูญ และกฎระเบียบที่รัฐบาลกลางบัญญัติไว้


เศรษฐกิจและทรัพยากรที่สำคัญ

*ในพ.ศ.2484 เกิดขบวนการเวียดมินห์ขึ้น เพื่อขับไล่ฝรั่งเศสโดยมีโฮจิมินห์ เป็นผู้นำ
*ในพ.ศ.2497 เวียดนามทำอนุสัญญาเจนีวา เพื่อสงบศึกกับฝรั่งเศส เป็นผลให้เวียดนามต้องแบ่งประเทศออกเป็น 2 ส่วน คือ เวียดนามเหนือภายใต้การนำของพรรคคอมมิวนิสต์ และเวียดนามใต้ภายใต้การปกครองระบอบประชาธิปไตย
*ใน พ.ศ.2503 เกิดสงครามเวียดนาม เป็นสงครามระหว่างเวียดนามเหนือและเวียดนามใต้ สงครามนี้ยุติลงได้ด้วยชัยชนะของเวียดนามเหนือ ทำให้เวียดนามรวมกันเป็นหนึ่งเดียวภายใต้ชื่อประเทศสาธารณรัฐสังคมนิยมเวียดนาม
