อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัยเป็นมรดกทางประวัติศาสตร์ของไทยสมัยเริ่มสร้างอาณาจักรที่ยังหลงเหลืออยู่ โดยได้รับการยกย่องจากองค์การยูเนสโก เมื่อเดือนธันวาคม 2534 ให้เป็น “มรดกโลก” เนื่องจากในอดีตเมืองสุโขทัยเคยเป็นราชธานีของไทยมีความเจริญรุ่งเรือง เป็นศูนย์กลางการปกครอง ศาสนา และเศรษฐกิจ ภายในอุทยานฯ มีสถานที่สำคัญที่เป็นพระราชวัง ศาสนสถาน โบราณสถาน โดยมีคูเมือง กำแพงเมือง และประตูเมืองโบราณล้อมรอบเป็นสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัส ประกอบด้วยสถานที่สำคัญ ๆ ได้แก่
