จากปัญหาดังกล่าวข้างต้นร่วมกับปัญหาความรู้ ความเข้าใจของคนไทยในเรื่องพรรณไม้น้ำที่ลดลงจึงเกิดเป็นแนวคิดในการจัดทำโครงการวิทยานิพนธ์นี้โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์มุ่งเน้นออกแบบพื้นที่เรียนรู้ และพื้นที่นันทนาการภายในสวนพฤกษศาสตร์โดยใช้พรรณไม้น้ำ การจัดแสดงและให้ความรู้ตามแนวคิดที่มองเห็นถึงความสำคัญของพรรณไม้น้ำที่มีความโดดเด่นทางกายภาพ ความสัมพันธ์กับสภาพแวดล้อมทางธรรมชาติที่แตกต่างกัน โดยจำลองพื้นที่ระบบนิเวศและธรรมชาติให้ใกล้เคียงความเป็นจริง ควบคู่ไปกับการจัดแสดงเนื้อหาความรู้ทางด้านประโยชน์ใช้สอยทั้งภายในและนอกอาคาร เพื่อเน้นให้ผู้มาเยือนได้รับความรู้และบรรยากาศไปด้วยกัน เป็นการแก้ไขจุดอ่อนด้านการจัดแสดงพรรณไม้น้ำในสวนพฤกษศาสตร์โดยทั่วไปในประเทศไทย ที่มักประสบปัญหาทางด้านการจัดแสดงที่เข้าใจได้ยากและขาดความน่าสนใจ
