หลังจากได้ออกแผน Roadmap จึงได้ออกระเบียบสำนักนายกรัฐมนตรีว่าด้วยการจัดระบบบริหารจัดการขยะมูลฝอยของประเทศ พ.ศ. 2557 โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อต้องการให้มีการจัดการขยะมูลฝอยอย่างเป็นระบบ มีการจัดการปัญหาขยะมูลฝอยอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากขึ้น และได้มอบหมายให้องค์กรปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นดูแลและเร่งดำเนินการ
จากการดำเนินงานอย่างจริงจังในระยะเวลา 1 ปีที่ผ่านมา ทำให้ปี 2014 สามารถกำจัดขยะมูลฝอยได้ถึง 22 ล้านตัน
