วัดพระศรีรัตนมหาธาตุ หรือ วัดพระบรมธาตุเมืองเชลียง และเรียกอีกชื่อว่า วัดพระปรางค์ ตั้งอยู่นอกกำแพงเมืองเก่าศรีสัชนาลัย ลงไปทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ประมาณ 3 กิโลเมตร เป็นกลุ่มโบราณสถานขนาดใหญ่ และเป็นพระอารามหลวงชั้นราชวรวิหาร มีโบราณสถานที่สำคัญภายในวัด ได้แก่ ปรางค์ประธาน ก่อด้วยศิลาแลงฉาบปูน ลักษณะรูปแบบเป็นสถาปัตยกรรมจัดอยู่ในสมัยอยุธยา บริเวณเรือนธาตุด้านหน้ามีบันไดขึ้นองค์ปรางค์สู่ซุ้มโถง ผนังภายในองค์ปรางค์พบว่ามีร่องรอยจิตรกรรมฝาผนังแต่ลบเลือนไปมาก ด้านหน้าองค์ปรางค์มีวิหาร ภายในประดิษฐานพระพุทธรูปขนาดใหญ่ปางมารวิชัย และทางด้านขวามีพระพุทธรูปปูนปั่นปางลีลาที่มีลักษณะงดงาม กำแพงวัด เป็นศิลาและแท่นกลมขนาดใหญ่เรียงชิดติดกันเป็นรูปสี่เหลี่ยมผืนผ้า กว้าง 60 เมตร ยาว 90 เมตร เหนือซุ้มประตูทำเป็นรูปคล้ายหลังคายอด และเหนือซุ้มขึ้นไปปั้นปูนเป็นรูปพระพักตร์พระโพธิสัตว์อวโลกิเตศวร พระธาตุมุเตา อยู่ด้านหลังปรางค์ประธานนอกกำแพงแก้ว ลักษณะพระธาตุมุเตาเป็นเจดีย์ทรงมอญ ในการขุดแต่งเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2535 ได้พบทองจังโกประดับส่วนยอดของเจดีย์ มณฑปพระอัฏฐารศ อยู่ด้านหลังของพระธาตุมุเตา เดิมน่าจะเป็นมณฑปพระสี่อิริยาบท ต่อมาได้ซ่อมแซมดัดแปลง ภายในซุ้มคูหามีพระพุทธรูปยืนอยู่ เดิมมณฑปมุงหลังคาด้วยกระเบื้องดินเผา วิหารพระสองพี่น้อง อยู่ทางซ้ายมณฑปพระอัฏฐารศ ก่อด้วยศิลาแลง มีพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นปางมารวิชัย 2 องค์ อยู่บนแท่นพระ จากการขุดค้นทางโบราณคดีพบว่าฐานวิหารสองพี่น้องก่อทับอาคารเดิมที่ก่อด้วยอิฐ และด้านข้างทางขวาของพระวิหารได้พบฐานรอยพระพทุธบาท โบสถ์ ตั้งอยู่ด้านหน้าพระวิหาร ปัจจุบันทางวัดได้บูรณะปฏิสังขรณ์ใหม่ทั้งหลังโดยสร้างทับโบสถ์เดิม กุฏิพระร่วงพระลือ หรือเรียกอีกชื่อว่า ศาลพระร่วงพระลือ มีลักษณะเป็นมณฑป ฐานสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัสกว้าง หลังคาทรงมณฑปก่ออิฐซ้อนกัน 4 ชั้น ภายในประดิษฐานรูปหล่อพระร่วงพระลือ(จำลอง)
