ชิน บำรุงพงศ์ เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 11 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2471ที่อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดพิษณุโลก จบระดับประถมศึกษาที่โรงเรียนจีน (สิ่นหมิน)จังหวัดพิษณุโลก มีโอกาสได้เรียนทั้งภาษาไทย และ ภาษาจีน สอบได้ประกาศณียบัตรครู (ป.) เมื่อกระทรวงศึกษาธิการเปิดสอบวิชาครู เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2494
ช่วงที่ทำงานได้เคยไปทำงานแถวห้าแยกพลับพลาไชย กรุงเทพฯ แต่ไม่นานเกิดสงครามโลก ครั้งที่ 2 จึงเดินทางกลับพิษณุโลก เมื่อสอบได้ประกาศนียบัตรครู ป.ได้ไปสอนหนังสือที่อำเภอสูงเนิน จังหวัดนครราชสีมา 1 ปี ย้ายไปสอนที่โรงเรียนศึกษาวัฒนา สามย่าน กรุงเทพฯ จนประมาณ พ.ศ. 2504 ลาออกไปเป็นเสมียนโรงไม้ที่จังหวัดพัทลุง เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2506 ได้เริ่มหันมาแปลงนวนิยายกำลังภายในเป็นหลักและยึดมาเป็นอาชีพจนปัจจุบัน
