เมื่อผู้เป็นมอญเดินหรือวิ่งมาถึงจะหยิบผ้านั้นตีผู้ที่นั่งอยู่ ซึ่งผู้ที่ถูกตีจะต้องรีบลุกออกจากที่นั่งวิ่งหนีไปรอบวงครบ 1 รอบ จึงกลับเข้านั่งที่ตามเดิม ผู้ที่เป็นมอญจะถือผ้าเดินหรือวิ่งรอบๆ วง เพื่อจะวางผ้าซ่อนไว้ข้างหลังผู้นั่งคนอื่นต่อไป ในทางกลับกันหากผู้นั่งที่ถูกวางผ้าข้างหลังรู้ตัว ก็จะหยิบผ้าและลุกขึ้นวิ่งไล่ตีผู้เป็นมอญไปรอบวง ซึ่งผู้เป็นมอญจะต้องรีบวิ่งหนีและเข้านั่งแทนที่ผู้ที่วิ่งไล่ และผู้ที่ได้ผ้าก็จะเป็น "มอญ" ซ่อนผ้าคนอื่นต่อไป



ในการนั่งล้อมวงนี้ ผู้ที่นั่งล้อมวงทุกคนจะต้องนั่งราบกับพื้น ห้ามนั่งยองๆ และจะหันไปดูข้างหลังไม่ได้ อนุญาตให้ใช้เพียงมือคลำดูเท่านั้น ส่วนผู้ซ่อนผ้าต้องวางผ้าให้ใกล้ตัวผู้นั่งพอสมควร เมื่อวางแล้วให้เดินหรือวิ่งต่อไปจะหันหลังกลับไม่ได้
