โครงการนี้ได้ทำการศึกษากระบวนการผลิตของโรงพิมพ์มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเพิ่มผลิตภาพและลดต้นทุนการผลิต โดยประยุกต์ใช้หลักการการศึกษาการเคลื่อนไหวและเวลา ( Motion and Time Study ) จากการศึกษาและวิเคราะห์การเคลื่อนไหวในขณะทำงานของพนักงานในแต่ละแผนก ทางกลุ่มเราได้เลือกปัญหาการจัดเรียงหน้าเข้าเล่มมาทำการปรับปรุงวิธีการทำงานใหม่ โดยวิธีการทำงานในปัจจุบันมีเวลามาตรฐานของการผลิตหนังสือที่มีจำนวนหน้าเฉลี่ย 199 หน้าได้เท่ากับ 1.19 นาทีต่อเล่ม ผลิตภาพเท่ากับ 50.42 เล่มต่อชั่วโมงต่อคน มีเวลาเคาะและเวลาเดินของพนักงานหรือเวลาเคลื่อนย้ายที่ไม่ทำให้เกิดมูลค่าเพิ่มเท่ากับ 9.82 และ 0.35 วินาทีต่อเล่ม ตามลำดับ ผู้ศึกษาได้คิดและออกแบบวิธีการทำงานใหม่และเสนอเป็นแนวทางในการปรับปรุง โดยมีทางเลือกที่นำเสนอทางเลือก 3 ทางเลือกดังนี้ ทางเลือกที่ 1 ปรับปรุงวิธีการทำงานใหม่โดยเพิ่มโต๊ะขนาดเล็กและรถเข็น 4 ล้อ มาใช้ซึ่งจะทำให้เวลามาตรฐานลดลงจากเดิม 37.82 % ผลิตภาพเพิ่มขึ้น 60.81% และสามรถลดต้นทุนการผลิตหนังสือได้ 31,585.56 บาทต่อปี หรือคิดเป็น 37.81% ทางเลือกที่ 2 จัดเรียงหน้าโดยใช้โต๊ะหมุน สามรถลดเวลามาตรฐาน 31.93% และมีผลิตภาพเพิ่มขึ้น 46.91% และสามารถลดต้นทุนการผลิตหนังสือได้เท่ากับ 26,550.18 บาทต่อปี หรือคิดเป็น 31.78 % ทางเลือกที่ 3 จัดเรียงหน้ากระดาษโดยใช้โต๊ะหมุนร่วมกับรถเข็น สามารถลดเวลามาตรฐานจากเดิมลง 35.29% มีผลิตภาพเพิ่มขึ้น 54.54% และสามารถลดต้นทุนการผลิตหนังสือได้ 29,525.64 บาทต่อปี หรือคิดเป็น 35.34%
