รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุขยืนยันขณะนี้ยังไม่พบผู้ป่วยโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาในประเทศไทยอย่างไรก็ตามเพื่อความไม่ประมาท หน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องได้มีการเตรียมพร้อมและเฝ้าระวังติดตามสถานการณ์อย่างใกล้ชิด

รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุข ได้กล่าวชี้แจงถึงสถานการณ์เกี่ยวกับการระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาว่า การระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาครั้งนี้เป็นครั้งที่รุนแรงที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ โดยมีการระบาดที่ประเทศทางแอฟริกาตะวันตก 5 ประเทศ คือ สาธารณรัฐกินี สาธารณรัฐไลบีเรีย สาธารณรัฐเชียร์ราลีโอน สหพันธ์สาธารณรัฐไนจีเรีย และสาธารณรัฐเซเนกัล ต่อมามีการแพร่ไปยังประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และประเทศสเปน จากผู้ที่ได้เคยเดินทางไปในประเทศแอฟริกาตะวันตก ซึ่งขณะนี้การระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลายังทวีความรุนแรงขึ้น โดยองค์การอนามัยโลกได้รายงานสถานการณ์ผู้ป่วย ณ วันที่ 8 ตุลาคม 2557 มีผู้ป่วยรวมทั้งสิ้น จำนวน 8,399 คน และในจำนวนดังกล่าว เสียชีวิตไปแล้ว จำนวน 4,033 คน ซึ่งในสาธารณรัฐกินี สาธารณรัฐไลบีเรีย และสาธารณรัฐเชียร์ราลีโอน มีสถานการณ์ที่รุนแรงที่สุด

ส่วนสถานการณ์ในประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา และประเทศสเปน ซึ่งมีรายงานของบุคลากรสาธารณสุขที่ติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาจากผู้ป่วย นั้น รายงานจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญระบุว่า อาจจะเกิดจากจุดอ่อนของขั้นตอนในการที่สอดอุปกรณ์การป้องกันตนเองอาจจะมีความผิดพลาดในช่วงจังหวะดังกล่าวจึงทำให้เกิดการติดเชื้อขึ้น ทั้งนี้ถ้ามีความระมัดระวังในกระบวนการที่จะดูแลในเรื่องของเครื่องมือในการป้องกันอย่างเต็มที่เหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวคงจะไม่เกิดขึ้น ซึ่งเรื่องนี้จะเป็นกรณีให้กับบุคคลากรสาธารณสุขพึงระวังในเรื่องดังกล่าวให้มากขึ้นถึงแม้จะมีการสวมชุดป้องกันอย่างเต็มที่แล้วโดยเฉพาะในขั้นตอนการใช้อุปกรณ์ที่จะต้องทำให้ถูกต้องด้วย

ทั้งนี้ที่ผ่านมาสำหรับประเทศไทย ได้มีมาตรการติดตามเฝ้าระวังและควบคุมการระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาอย่างใกล้ชิด โดยมาตรการที่ประเทศไทยได้ดำเนินการไปแล้ว มีดังนี้

1) คัดกรองผู้เดินทางที่มีประวัติเดินทางกลับมาจากประเทศที่เกิดโรคโดยการซักประวัติและวัดอุณหภูมิที่ด่านควบคุมโรคติดต่อระหว่างประเทศ 9 แห่ง ณ ท่าอากาศยานนานาชาติ ท่าเรือ และพรมแดนช่องทางเข้าออกระหว่างประเทศ ตั้งแต่วันที่ 8 มิถุนายน 2557 – 25 กันยายน 2557 มีผู้เดินทางที่ผ่านการคัดกรองสะสมแล้ว 1,689 ราย ทั้งนี้ มีการติดตั้งอุปกรณ์วัดอุณหภูมิร่างกายผู้โดยสารขาเข้าที่ท่าอากาศยานสุวรรณภูมิ

2) มาตรการในการป้องกันและดูแลรักษาผู้ป่วยติดเชื้อตามมาตรฐานสากลอย่างเต็มที่ รวมทั้งได้มีการเตรียมความพร้อมโรงพยาบาลที่มีศักยภาพที่จะสามารถรองรับและดูแลผู้ป่วยที่ติดเชื้อประเภทดังกล่าวไว้ด้วย

3) มาตรการการเตรียมความพร้อมเกี่ยวกับห้องปฏิบัติการที่ทันสมัยและเป็นไปตามมาตรฐานสากล

4) การให้ความรู้ ความเข้าใจที่ถูกต้องแก่ประชาชน เกี่ยวกับการติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลา โดยเฉพาะการไปสัมผัสกับสารคัดหลั่งของผู้ป่วน เช่น น้ำลาย น้ำตา การสัมผัสตัวผู้ป่วยโดยตรง เป็นต้น

5) การบริหารจัดการในภาพรวมโดยอาศัยกลไกของคณะกรรมการอำนวยการเตรียมความพร้อมป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาโรคอุบัติใหม่แห่งชาติ โดยมีรองนายกรัฐมนตรี ที่นายกรัฐมนตรีมอบหมายให้เป็นประธาน และหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง ได้ร่วมกันจัดทำแนวทางการเตรียมความพร้อมป้องกันและควบคุมการระบาดของโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาทุกภาคส่วน เพื่อให้เกิดความมั่นใจว่าประเทศไทยมีความพร้อมที่จะรองรับและรับมือกับโรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาหากมีผู้ป่วยเข้ามาในประเทศไทย อย่างไรก็ตามในสถานการณ์โรคติดเชื้อไวรัสอีโบลาจะแพร่มาถึงประเทศไทยยังเป็นไปได้น้อย ทั้งนี้เพื่อความไม่ประมาทจึงได้มีการออกมาตรการเฝ้าระวังดังกล่าวอย่างเต็มที่

พร้อมกันนี้ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงสาธารณสุข ได้กล่าวฝากว่า หากประชาชนไม่มีความจำเป็นที่จะเดินทางไปยังประเทศที่มีการระบาดของโรคดังกล่าวก็ขอให้หลีกเลี่ยง แต่หากมีความจำเป็นต้องเดินทางไปประเทศที่เกิดโรคเมื่อเดินทางกลับมาต้องมารายงานตัวที่โรงพยาบาล เพื่อจะได้ติดตามเฝ้าระวังป้องกันตามมาตรฐานสากล ภายใน 21 วัน และถ้ามีอาการป่วยต้องรีบไปพบแพทย์ที่โรงพยาบาลทันทีเพื่อจะได้ดำเนินการดูแลรักษาอย่างเต็มที่ต่อไป ทั้งนี้เชื้อไวรัสอีโบลา ไม่ได้ติดต่อทางการหายใจ แต่จะติดต่อทางการสัมผัส เลือด น้ำเหลือง หรือสารคัดหลั่งของผู้ป่วย ซึ่งประชาชนจะต้องพยายามหลีกเลี่ยงและมีความรู้เกี่ยวกับการที่จะเฝ้าระวัง เพื่อป้องกันในเรื่องดังกล่าว ขณะเดียวกันหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้องก็จะเฝ้าระวังติดตามสถานการณ์อย่างใกล้ชิด และเตรียมความพร้อมทุกภาคส่วนอย่างเต็มที่
