ความเป็นมาชุมชนย่านวัวลาย
ประวัติชุมชนย่านวัวลายปัจจุบัน สามารถสืบย้อนกลับไปกว่า 200 ปีในยุคที่พระเจ้ากาวิละ ริเริ่มสร้างเชียงใหม่ให้กลับมามีชีวิตอีกครั้งหนึ่ง หลังจากเป็นอิสระจากการปกครองของพม่า โดยอพยพชาวเมืองปุ เมืองงัวลาย และชาวเมืองคง แถบลุ่มแม่น้ำสาละวิน (พม่าปัจจุบัน) ซึ่งเป็นชุมชนช่างฝีมือเครื่องเงิน เริ่มอพยพระหว่างปี พ.ศ.2342 – 2347 มาอาศัยอยู่รอบกำแพงเมืองเชียงใหม่ ตั้งชื่อชุมชนแห่งใหม่นี้ว่า “วัวลาย” ตามเมืองเดิมที่จากมา เพื่อรำลึกถึงรากเหง้าของชุมชน โดยมีวัดหมื่นสาร และวัดศรีสุพรรณ เป็นศูนย์กลางของชุมชนย่านวัวลาย จากอดีตจวบถึงปัจจุบัน ย่านวัวลายยังคงเป็นชุมชนการผลิตเครื่องเงินแนวประเพณีที่สืบสานมรดกศิลปวัฒนธรรมของชาติ
