เดิมชื่อวัดบางว้าใหญ่หลังจากนั้นได้มีการเปลี่ยนชื่อในสมัยรัชกาลที่สี่เป็นวัดระฆังโฆสิตาราม. วัดระฆังฝั่งตรงข้ามคือท่าพระจันทร์ข้างๆคือกองทัพเรือและโรงพยาบาลศิริราช.
วัดระฆังมีหอพระไตรปิฎกซึ่งเป็นที่ประทับของรัชกาลที่1สมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลก. มีพระพุทธรูปคือพระประธานยิ้มรับฟ้า.มีโรงเรียนสตรีวัดระฆังและโรงเรียนโฆสิตารามอยู่ใกล้
