การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการรับรู้สภาพแวดล้อมทางกายภาพด้านความปลอดภัยของผู้ใช้สวนสาธารณะ โดยวิเคราะห์ความต้องการ กิจกรรม และพฤติกรรมของผู้ที่ใช้บริการสวนสาธารณะที่มีสภาพแวดล้อมทางกายภาพที่แตกต่างกัน เพื่อเสนอแนะเป็นแนวทางในการออกแบบสภาพแวดล้อมของสวนสาธารณะที่มีลักษณะทางกายภาพที่แตกต่างกันให้เหมาะสมกับความต้องการของผู้ใช้สวนสาธารณะมากยิ่งขึ้น
ผู้วิจัยจึงสนใจพื้นที่ศึกษาที่มีสภาพแวดล้อมทางกายภาพที่แตกต่างกัน โดยเลือกประชากรกลุ่มตัวอย่างจากผู้ใช้บริการสวนสาธารณะ 2 แห่ง ได้แก่ (1) กลุ่มผู้ใช้บริการสนามกีฬาหัวหมาก (2) ผู้ใช้บริการสวนวิชริเบญจทัศ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการรวมรวมข้อมูลภาคสนามเป็นแบบสอบถาม และการสัมภาษณ์ โดยใช้เทคนิคการสร้างสภาพแวดล้อมทางกายด้วยภาพจำลองของสวนสาธารณะและประเมินความรู้สึก การรับรู้ด้านความปลอดภัย ด้วยมาตรวัดแบบซีแมนติก ดิฟเฟอเรนเชียล (Semantic Differential Scale) โดยการใช้ภาพถ่ายของสวนสาธารณะ จำนวน 19 คู่ภาพ รวม 38 ภาพ เป็นส่วนประกอบแบบสอบถาม ใช้วิธีการสุ่มกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบง่าย (Simple Random Sampling) สถิติที่ใช้วิเคราะห์ข้อมูล คือ ค่าเฉลี่ย และทดสอบความแตกต่างของปัจจัยของสภาพแวดล้อมด้วยการทดสอบค่า t-test และการทดสอบ Anova ด้วยโปรแกรม SPSS
