ความสำคัญของภาษาอังกฤษในปัจจุบันนี้นั้น ถือว่ามีอิทธิพลต่อคนไทยทุกคนอย่างมาก ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาสื่อกลางที่ทุกประเทศสามารถใช้ในการสื่อสารให้เข้าใจกันได้ บางประเทศอาจจะยังพูดภาอังกฤษได้ไม่ค่อยคล่องมากนัก แต่ก็สามารถที่จะเข้าใจความหมายได้ในบางคำ ซึ่งภาษาอังกฤษนี้เป็นภาษาที่ทุกประเทศล้วนได้เรียนมา จึงได้ชื่อว่าเป็นภาษาสื่อกลางของโลก ยิ่งในปัจจุบันประเทศไทยได้เข้าเป็นหนึ่งในสมาชิกของอาเซียน เพราะฉะนั้นภาษาอังกฤษจึงมีความสำคัญในทุกบทบาทการใช้ชีวิตของคนไทยมากขึ้น ความสำคัญของภาษาอังกฤษต่ออาชีพ เช่น ไกด์ที่ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษในการสื่อสารเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะต้องพูดแนะนำสถานที่ต่างๆให้กับนักท่องเที่ยวได้ฟัง และแน่นอนว่านักท่องเที่ยวที่มาเที่ยวในประเทศไทยนั้น ไม่ได้มีแค่คนไทย แต่ยังมีชาวต่างชาติอีกมากมายที่มาใช้บริการด้านการท่องเที่ยวในประเทศไทย และยังมีทั้งด้านการศึกษา และการใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันอีกด้วยที่ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ ด้วยปัจจัยเหล่านี้สามารถสรุปได้ว่า ภาษาอังกฤษมีความสำคัญต่อประเทศไทยอย่างมากเลยทีเดียว

คนไทยส่วนใหญ่อาจคิดว่าภาษาอังกฤษไม่มีความสำคัญในชีวิตประจำวัน อาจคิดว่าเรียนไปก็ไม่ได้ใช้ประโยชน์อยู่ดี อาจคิดว่าภาษาอังกฤษยากเกินไปเลยไม่เรียน และคนไทยอีกหลายคนสามารถพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ แต่ไม่กล้าไปพูดกับชาวต่างชาติจริง ซึ่งเกิดจากหลายสาเหตุ เช่น กลัวพูดผิด เขินอายจนไม่กล้า ซึ่งสาเหตุทั้ง 2 ข้อนี้ถือเป็นสาเหตุหลักที่ทำให้คนไทยพูดภาอังกฤษไม่ค่อยคล่องแคล่วนัก แต่ก็ยังมีคนไทยอีกบางส่วนที่คิดเพียงว่า “ไม่ใช่ภาษาพ่อแม่เรา จะพูดไปทำไม” ซึ่งถือเป็นความคิดที่ผิดมาก ด้วนสาเหตุเหล่านี้ ถ้าคนไทยหลายๆคนยังไม่ลบความคิดเช่นนี้ออกไป ในอนาคตประเทศไทยก็คงยังพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ไม่เก่งเหมือนเดิม
