กล้วยไม้ไทยสกุลต่าง ๆ สามารถทำการซื้อขายกันได้โดยเสรีแต่การเก็บออกจากป่าจะต้องได้รับอนุญาต จากกรมป่าไม้ก่อนส่วนการซื้อขายระหว่างประเทศนั้น ตามอนุสัญญาไซเทสกำหนดให้กล้วยไม้สกุลต่าง ๆ ส่วนใหญ่เป็นพันธุ์พืชอนุรักษ์ บัญชีที่ 2 เรื่องนี้มีที่มาพอสรุป ได้ดังต่อไปนี้

1. พืชอนุรักษ์บัญชีที่ 1 หมายถึงชนิดพันธุ์ที่ใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์และมีเหลืออยู่น้อยมากห้ามมิให้นำเข้า ส่งออก ยกเว้น กรณีพิเศษ การนำเข้า ส่งออกซึ่งชนิดพันธุ์ในบัญชีนี้ต้องคำนึงถึงความอยู่รอดของ ชนิดพันธุ์นั้น ๆ เป็นสำคัญ ตัวอย่างชนิดพันธุ์ใน บัญชีที่ 1 ได้แก่ กล้วยไม้รองเท้านารีทุกชนิด (Paphiopedilum spp.) ฟ้ามุ่ย (Vanda coerulea) เอื้องปากนกแก้ว (Dendrobium cruentum Rchb.f.) เป็นต้น

2. พืชอนุรักษ์บัญชีที่ 2 หมายถึงชนิดพันธุ์ที่มีอยู่ค่อนข้างน้อย แต่ยังไม่ถึงกับใกล้จะสูญพันธุ์มีการ อนุญาตให้นำเข้า ส่งออกได้ แต่ต้องมีการควบคุมที่เหมาะสม ตัวอย่างชนิดพันธุ์ ได้แก่ หม้อข้าวหม้อแกงลิง (Nepenthes spp.)
