ความเป็นมาและความสำคัญของปัญหา

ในโลกยุคปัจจุบันความเจริญก้าวหน้าทางวิทยาศาสตร์ที่มาจากยุโรปและอเมริกาเป็นส่วนใหญ่ได้เข้ามามีบทบาทในประเทศไทย หากต้องการเข้าใจสิ่งเหล่านี้ต้องมีความรู้เป็นภาษาอังกฤษเป็นอย่างดีเพราะตำรับตำราส่วนมากเขียนเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ อีกทั้งภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาสากลมีการใช้กันอย่างแพร่หลายมากที่สุด การเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษจึงเป็นเครื่องหมายของคนมีการศึกษาดีอย่างหลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้ ประกอบกับการติดต่อค้าขายกับต่างประเทศกว้างขวางขึ้น มีข้อจำกัดและกฎเกณฑ์เข้ามาเกี่ยวข้องจึงจำเป็นต้องอาศัยภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษากลางในการสื่อสาร ทำสัญญาต่างๆ เมื่อมองดูแล้ว ปัจจุบันประเทศไทยกำลังพัฒนาตัวเองไปสู่ประเทศอุตสาหกรรม จำเป็นต้องใช้บุคลากรที่มีความรู้ในหลายๆด้านรวมทั้งผู้ชำนาญด้านภาษาด้วย อีกด้านคือประเทศไทยกำลังประสบปัญหาทางการเมืองอยู่ ณ ขณะนี้ ดังนั้นในการแก้ปัญหาข้อขัดแย้งทางการเมือง การทหาร การทูตระหว่างประเทศต้องมีความรอบคอบระมัดระวังในการเลือกใช้คำพูดเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงความเข้าใจผิดต่างๆอันเกิดจากการใช้คำไม่เหมาะสม นักจิตวิทยาทางภาษาศาสตร์ได้ค้นคว้าและสรุปออกมาว่าคนที่รู้มากกว่าหนึ่งภาษามีโอกาสได้พัฒนามันสมองในส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับภาษาได้มากกว่าคนที่พูดอยู่ภาษาเดียวและคนที่พูดได้ภาษามีโอกาสหารายได้ได้เร็วกว่าและมากกว่าคนที่พูดได้ภาษาเดียวคือภาษาแม่ (ดร.ธีรวิทย์ ภิญโญณัฐกานต์. 2555: จากหนังสือพูดภาษาอังกฤษอย่างไรให้ฝรั่งรู้เรื่อง British vs American)

การเรียนการสอนภาษาต่างประเทศปัจจุบันเป็นแนวการสอนเพื่อการสื่อสาร ซึ่งมุ่งเน้นการสร้างและพัฒนาทักษะทั้ง 4 ด้านในตัวผู้เรียน ได้แก่ ทักษะการฟัง พูด อ่าน เขียน ความรู้ เรื่องคำศัพท์ มีความสัมพันธ์กับทักษะทั้ง 4 ด้าน และการที่จะเรียนรู้ภาษาอังกฤษให้ได้ดีนั้น นักเรียนที่รู้
คำศัพท์มากจำได้แม่น สามารถนำไปใช้ได้อย่างถูกต้อง ย่อมเรียนได้ผลดียิ่งขึ้น (พิสมัย รุ่งโรจน์นิมิตชัย 2548 : บทนำ) ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวกับผลสัมฤทธิ์และความคงทนในการเรียนรู้คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษ (วรรณพร ศิลาขาว. 2538 : 21) และ กนิษฐา ระเวช (2543 : 87) พบว่าการสอนคำศัพท์มีความจำเป็นอย่างมากในการเรียนรู้ภาษา เพราะคำศัพท์เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นในการพัฒนาทักษะการฟัง พูด อ่าน เขียน ทั้งนี้เป็นเพราะคำศัพท์เป็นหน่วยหนึ่ง ในโครงสร้างของภาษาที่เป็นพื้นฐานของการเรียนภาษาที่ผู้เรียนจะนำมาสร้างเป็นวลี หรือประโยคในการพูดหรือเขียน และการฟังหรืออ่านนั้น คำศัพท์จะเป็นส่วนประกอบของข้อความที่สื่อสาร
ในปัจจุบันพบว่าปัญหาพื้นฐานของการเรียนทักษะทั้งสี่ คือ ปัญหาคำศัพท์ เนื่องจากความรู้
ด้านคำศัพท์ไม่เพียงพอ เป็นสาเหตุสำคัญประการหนึ่งที่ทำให้นักเรียนไม่ประสบความสำเร็จในการเรียนภาษาอังกฤษในโรงเรียน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทักษะ การฟัง พูด อ่าน และเขียน ซึ่งเปน็ ทักษะที่สำคัญ
และจำเป็นที่นักเรียนจะต้องมีพื้นฐานเกี่ยวกับคำศัพท์ จึงจะสามารถเรียนภาษาได้ดี จึงเป็นที่ยอมรับว่า “คำศัพท์” เป็นหัวใจสำคัญในการศึกษาภาษาอย่างหนึ่ง (มานพ ประธรรมสาร. 2538 : 5) และสมใจ หอมสุวรรณ (2544 : 38) ได้กล่าวว่า ในการเรียนภาษา ความรู้เรื่องคำศัพท์มีความสัมพันธ์และเป็นพื้นฐานของทักษะ การฟัง พูด อ่าน และเขียน
ความรู้เรื่องคำศัพท์จึงเป็นเรื่องสำคัญในการเรียนภาษา ดังที่ น้ำทิพย์ นำเพชร (2541 : 65)
กล่าวว่า นักเรียนคนใดมีการพัฒนาการทางภาษาได้ดีมาตั้งแต่เด็ก คือ รู้คำศัพท์มากพอกับวัยของตน สามารถนำศัพท์ไปใช้ได้อย่างถูกต้อง นักเรียนคนนั้นจะเข้าใจความคิดของผู้อื่นและสิ่งแวดล้อมจนสามารถสื่อความหมาย หรือ แสดงความต้องการของตนให้ผู้อื่นเข้าใจได้ด้วย ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับงานวิจัยของอนุภาพ ดลโสภณ (2542 : 45) พบว่าเด็กไม่มีความแม่นยำหรือไม่มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับคำศัพท์แล้ว เด็กจะเรียนภาษาได้ดีทั้งการพูด การฟัง การอ่าน การเขียนได้ยาก โดยเฉพาะการอ่านและการเขียน ซึ่งเป็นทักษะที่สำคัญ และจำเป็นที่เด็กต้องมีพื้นฐาน จึงจะสามารถเรียนภาษาได้ดี
จากการที่ผู้วิจัยสอนนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนอนุบาลท่าม่วง ได้สังเกตผู้เรียนในชั้นเรียนวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ เมื่อครูจัดกิจกรรมทางด้านต่าง ๆ เช่น ทักษะการฟัง พูด อ่าน เขียนนักเรียนมีความสามารถทำงานหรือทำกิจกรรมทางภาษาได้น้อย รวมทั้งยังไม่สามารถนำคำศัพท์ที่เรียนมาใช้ในการเขียนได้ถูกต้อง แต่เมื่อผู้วิจัยใช้เกมภาษาเข้ามาแทรกบทเรียนในคาบใดพบว่า นักเรียนจะกระตือรือร้นให้ความร่วมมือในการทำกิจกรรมและเรียนด้วยความสนุกสนานมากขึ้น อาจเป็นเพราะการเล่นเกมทำให้นักเรียนมีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมที่จัดขึ้น เกิดความสนุกสนานและช่วยเสริมการเรียนรู้ในเรื่องคำศัพท์ได้เป็นอย่างดี ทำให้นักเรียนได้ฝึกตนเองอยู่เสมอ
จากปัญหาที่ผู้วิจัยประสบและแนวทางการสอนคำศัพท์เพื่อพัฒนาทักษะด้านคำศัพท์ของผู้เรียน ผู้วิจัยสนใจที่จะศึกษาค้นคว้าการใช้เกมคำศัพท์ในการฝึกทักษะด้านคำศัพท์ประกอบการเรียนการสอนภาษาอังกฤษสำหรับนักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 เพราะการสอนคำศัพท์โดยใช้เกมคำศัพท์จะทำให้นักเรียนสนุกสนาน
