การค้นคว้าแบบอิสระเรื่องการจัดการความรู้เพื่อพัฒนากระบวนการขอตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ วิทยาลัยศิลปะ สื่อ และเทคโนโลยี มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาและวิเคราะห์ปัญหาในการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ เพื่อระบุองค์ความรู้ที่จำเป็นในการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ และเพื่อพัฒนาแผนที่ความรู้ (KMAP) ในการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ
ผู้วิจัยใช้กระบวนการวิศวกรรมความรู้ (Knowledge Engineering) เป็นเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการศึกษาวิจัย ซึ่งประกอบด้วย ขั้นตอนการตรวจสอบความรู้ (Knowledge Audit) โดยการศึกษาและรวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสาร ระเบียบที่เกี่ยวข้อง ข้อบังคับ และการสำรวจปัญหาและอุปสรรค์ของอาจารย์ที่มีคุณสมบัติในการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ จำนวน 11 คน และได้นำผลสำรวจข้อมูลทั้งหมดมาตั้งเป็นกรอบคำถามเพื่อจับความรู้ (Knowledge Capture) โดยการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่มีประสบการณ์ในการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ จำนวน 3 ท่าน และดำเนินการวิเคราะห์ความรู้ (Knowledge Analysis) สังเคราะห์ความรู้เป็น ความรู้ระดับงาน (Task Level) ความรู้ระดับคิด (Inference Level) และความรู้ระดับปัญหา (Domain Level) และให้ผู้เชี่ยวชาญพิจารณาตรวจสอบความรู้เกี่ยวกับการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการเพื่อพัฒนาในรูปของแผนที่ความรู้ KMAP
จากการศึกษาพบว่า การขอกำหนตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ มีองค์ประกอบหลักสำคัญคือ การวางแผนในการยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ และการกำหนดขั้นตอนและกระบวนการยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ ซึ่งผู้ยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการควรเตรียมความพร้อมของตนเองก่อนการยื่นขอตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ และตรวจสอบคุณสมบัติของผู้ขอ ควรมีการตรวจสอบผลงานทางวิชาการที่ใช้ประกอบการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ ซึ่งผลการศึกษาพบว่าการบูรณาการพันธกิจหลักของอาจารย์สายวิชาการ ได้แก่ การสอน การวิจัย และการบริการวิชาการแก่สังคมต้องให้มีความสอดคล้องกับสาขาวิชาที่จะยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ เพื่อกำหนดแนวทางในการสร้างผลงานทางวิชาการได้ง่ายและตรงตามคุณวุฒิที่จะยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการในสาขาที่จะยื่นขอ ที่จะต้องผลิตผลงานทางวิชาการแล้วใช้ประกอบการขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ และผู้ยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการควรยึดแนวทางในแบบ ก.พ.อ.03 เป็นแนวทางหลักในการรวบรวมผลงานทางวิชาการ โดยผู้ยื่นขอสามารถเตรียมความพร้อมของผลงานทางวิชาการได้ตามความต้องการของการประเมินผลงานทางวิชาการ และการกำหนดกรอบเวลาในการสร้างผลงานทางวิชาการยังมีความสำคัญในการสร้างผลงานทางวิชาการให้มีประสิทธิภาพและมีคุณภาพโดยผู้ยื่นขอกำหนดตำแหน่งทางวิชาการควรมีการวางแผนและกำหนดช่วงเวลาในการผลิตผลงานทางวิชาการให้แน่นอน เนื่องจากการสร้างผลงานทางวิชาการแต่ละประเภทต้องใช้ระยะเวลาที่แตกต่างกัน
