ประวัติความเป็นมาของมหาวิทยาลัยมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัย วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ด โดยสังเขป

วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ด เป็นเขตการศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัยซึ่งเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยของรัฐ ในกำกับกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ขออนุมัติจัดตั้งโดยพระราชธรรมานุวัตร (ขณะดำรงสมณศักดิ์ที่พระประภัสสรมุนี) เจ้าคณะจังหวัดร้อยเอ็ด (ธ) และพระธรรมฐิติญาณ (ขณะดำรงสมณศักดิ์ที่พระราชสารสุธี) เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2535 และต่อมาได้รับอนุมัติให้จัดตั้งเป็นวิทยาเขตชื่อ “วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ด” เมื่อวันที่ 6 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2537 เดิมมีที่ทำการชั่วคราวอยู่ที่วัดเหนือและในช่วงปี พ.ศ.2537 พระเทพวิสุทธิมงคล (หลวงปู่ศรีมหาวีโร) ซึ่งเป็นเจ้าอาวาสวัดประชาคมวนาราม (วัดป่ากุง)ได้มาเห็นสภาพอาคารเรียน และห้องเรียนที่วัดเหนือคับแคบแออัดไม่เพียงพอและไม่เอื้ออำนวยต่อการจัดการเรียนการสอน จึงได้อนุญาต และทำสัญญายินยอมให้ใช้ที่ดินเนื้อที่ 101 ไร่ 98 ตารางวา ซึ่งสมเด็จพระญาณสังวร สมเด็จพระสังฆราช สกลมหาสังฆปรินายก(เจริญ สุวฑฺฒโน) ขณะดำรงสมณศักดิ์เป็นที่พระสาสนโสภณ เจ้าคณะใหญ่คณะธรรมยุต เป็นองค์รับมอบ ที่วัดบ้านเหล่าสมบูรณ์ (วัดศรีทองไพบูลย์วรารามในปัจจุบัน) ให้กับมหาวิทยาลัยมหามกุฏราชวิทยาลัย วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ด เข้าไปทำประโยชน์ใช้สอยจัดการศาสนศึกษาแก่พระภิกษุสามเณรและคฤหัสถ์ทั่วไปพร้อมทั้งให้อำนาจจัดการเกี่ยวกับการใช้ที่ดินถมดินปลูกสร้างสิ่งก่อสร้างต่างๆและให้เป็นที่ตั้งถาวรของวิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ดในปัจจุบัน
ในปี 2541 วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ดได้ขออนุมัติขยายห้องเรียนไปเปิดทำการเรียนการ สอน ณ วัดศรีธรรมาราม ถนนวิทยธำรงค์ ตำบลในเมือง อำเภอเมืองยโสธร จังหวัดยโสธรปัจจุบันเรียกว่า “ศูนย์การศึกษายโสธร” ต่อมาในปีพ.ศ. 2550 ได้รับอนุมัติให้ยกฐานะขึ้นเป็นวิทยาลัย เรียกว่า “วิทยาลัยศาสนศาสตร์ยโสธร”
ในปี พ.ศ. 2544 ได้รับอนุมัติให้ขยายห้องเรียนไปเปิดทำการเรียนการสอน ณ วัดประชานิยม ถนนถีนานนท์ ตำบลกาฬสินธุ์ อำเภอเมืองกาฬสินธุ์ จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์ ปัจจุบันเรียกว่า“ศูนย์การศึกษากาฬสินธุ์ ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2550 ได้รับอนุมัติให้ยกฐานะเป็นวิทยาลัย เรียกว่า “วิทยาลัยศาสนศาสตร์เฉลิมพระเกียรติกาฬสินธุ์”
ในปี 2549 วิทยาเขตร้อยเอ็ดได้ขออนุมัติขยายห้องเรียนไปเปิดทำการเรียนการ สอน ณ วัดหลวงสุมังคลาราม ตำบลเมืองใต้ อำเภอเมืองศรีสะเกษ จังหวัดศรีสะเกษ เรียกว่า "ศูนย์การศึกษาศรีสะกษ” ซึ่งในระยะเริ่มต้นทางท่านเจ้าอาวาสได้ยินยอมและอนุญาตให้ใช้อาคารเรียน 1 หลัง ซึ่งประกอบด้วย ห้องเรียนสำนักงานบริหาร ห้องสมุด
