Association of South East AsianNations หรือ ASEAN มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อส่งเสริมและร่วมมือในเรื่องสันติภาพ, ความมั่นคง, เศรษฐกิจ, องค์ความรู้, สังคมวัฒนธรรม บนพื้นฐานความเท่าเทียมกันและผลประโยชน์ร่วมกันของประเทศสมาชิก อาเซียนนั้นเป็นการรวมตัวกันของ 10 ประเทศ ในทวีปเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ รวมตัวกันให้มีความแข็งแกร่ง สามารถสร้างโอกาสให้กับทุกคนและสามารถรับมือกับภัยคุกคามต่างๆได้ ทั้งด้านการเมือง ความมั่นคง เป็นต้น โดยทำให้สมาชิกในชุมชนมีสภาพความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี สามารถประกอบกิจกรรมทางเศรษฐกิจได้อย่างสะดวกยิ่งขึ้น
