ประเพณี ปอยส่างลอง หรือที่เรียกว่า“

ประเพณี ปอยส่างลอง หรือที่เรียกว่า“งานบวชลูกแก้ว”เป็นงานประเพณีประจำของชาวไต หรือไทยใหญ่ ซึ่งได้มีการจัดสืบทอดกันมายาวนาน คำว่า ปอย แปลว่า งาน ซึ่งหมายถึง งานเทศกาล งานรื่นเริง งานมงคลต่าง ๆ ส่าง แปลว่า พระ-เณร และ ลอง มาจาก คำว่า อะลอง แปลว่า กษัตริย์ ราชา เกี่ยวกับเจ้าแผ่นดิน เมื่อรวมกันก็หมายถึง งานเตรียมบวชเป็นพระเณรของเด็กที่แต่งดาเป็นกษัตริย์หรือราชานั่นเอง

โดย งาน “ปอยส่างลอง” นี้ จะนิยมจัดในช่วงระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม ถึง เดือนพฤษภาคมของทุกปี เนื่องจากเป็นช่วงที่ชาวบ้านมีเวลาว่างเว้น หลังจากเก็บเกี่ยวผืชผลเกษตรในไร่นาแล้วเสร็จ ประกอบกับเป็นช่วงปิดเทอมปิดภาคเรียนของเด็กๆ สาเหตุที่ชาวไทยใหญ่ได้จัดงานนี้ก็เพราะต้องการให้บุตรหลานได้มีโอกาสบรรพชา เป็นพระภิกษุสามเณรเพื่อสืบทอดพระพุทธศาสนา ดังจะเห็นได้ว่าชายชาวไทยใหญ่ที่นับถือพระพุทธศาสนา ล้วนจะได้ผ่านการบวชเป็นพระหรือสามเณรจากงานประเพณีปอยส่างลองนี้กันมาแทบ ทั้งสิ้น

นับแต่อดีตมา พม่ามีงานประเพณีของแต่ละเดือนในรอบปี เรียกว่า แซะนะล่ะหย่าตี่บะแว หรือประเพณีสิบสองเดือน ในยุคราชวงศ์ของพม่ามีการกำหนดให้งานนี้เป็นพระราชพิธี แม้ว่าในปัจจุบันพม่าจะยังคงสืบทอดงานประเพณีสิบสองเดือนไว้ แต่ก็มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปจากเดิมบ้าง ประเพณีสิบสองเดือนของพม่าเป็นดังนี้ (เดือน 1 ของพม่า เท่ากับเดือน 5 ของไทย และเดือน 12 ไทย เท่ากับเดือน 8 พม่า)

เดือนหนึ่ง เรียกว่า เดือนดะกู (มี.ค.-เม.ย.) เป็นเดือนเริ่มศักราชใหม่ และเป็นเดือนต้นฤดูร้อน ประเพณีสำคัญของเดือนนี้คืองานฉลองสงกรานต์ พม่าถือเป็นงานฉลองวันส่งท้ายปีเก่าและย่างสู่ปีใหม่ มีการเล่นสาดน้ำกันตลอด 5 วัน ชาวพม่าถือว่าช่วงเวลานี้เป็นวันมงคล จึงนิยมเข้าวัดรักษาศีล ช่วยกวาดลานวัดและลานเจดีย์ สรงน้ำพระพุทธและเจดีย์ รดน้ำดำหัวพ่อ แม่ ปู่ ย่า ตา ยาย ตลอดจนครูบาอาจารย์ และสระผมให้ผู้เฒ่าผู้แก่ด้วยน้ำส้มป่อย งดการฆ่าสัตว์ตัดชีวิต บ้างสร้างกุศลด้วยการปล่อยวัว ควาย และปลา กวีพม่าชื่อ อูบุญญะ บันทึกไว้ว่า ในยามเที่ยงตรงของเดือนดะกู จะเห็นเงาตนเองใกล้ตัวเพียงแค่ 3 ฝ่าเท้า หากเป็นเดือนอื่น จะเห็นได้ยาวสุดถึง 6 ฝ่าเท้า ฉะนั้นเดือนดะกูจึงเป็นเดือนที่ตะวันยามเที่ยงอยู่ตรงศีรษะมากที่สุด เมื่อสิ้นวันสงกรานต์ ชาวพม่าจะนิยมจัดงานบวชเณรให้บุตรและจัดงานเจาะหูให้ธิดา ดังนั้นในช่วงหลังสงกรานต์ จะพบเห็นขบวนแห่ลูกแก้วและลูกหญิงไปตาม ท้องถนนและรอบลานองค์เจดีย์ ตามวัดต่างๆจึงมีสามเณรบวชใหม่อยู่กันเต็มแทบทุกวัด
