หลักธรรมที่ควรนำไปปฏิบัติคือ "โอวาทปาฏิโมกข์" ซึ่งเป็นหลักคำสอนสำคัญอันเป็นหัวใจของพระพุทธศาสนา เพื่อไปสู่ความหลุดพ้น หลักธรรมประกอบด้วย หลักการ 3 อุดมการณ์ 4 และวิธีการ 6 ดังนี้

หลักการ 3 คือหลักคำสอนที่ควรปฏิบัติ ได้แก่

2. การทำกุศลให้ถึงพร้อม คือ การทำความดีทุกอย่างตาม กุศลกรรมบถ 10 ทั้งความดีทางกาย (ไม่ฆ่าสัตว์ ไม่เบียดเบียนผู้อื่น ไม่เอาสิ่งของที่เจ้าของไม่ได้ให้มาเป็นของตน มีความเอื้อเฟื้อเผื่อแผ่ ไม่ประพฤติผิดในกาม) ความดีทางวาจา (ไม่พูดเท็จ ไม่พูดส่อเสียด ไม่พูดหยาบคาย ไม่พูดเพ้อเจ้อ) และความดีทางใจ (ไม่โลภอยากได้ของผู้อื่น มีความเมตตาปรารถนาดี มีความเข้าใจถูกต้องตามทำนองคลองธรรม)

3. การทำจิตใจให้ผ่องใส คือ ทำจิตใจให้บริสุทธิ์ หลุดจากนิวรณ์ที่คอยขัดขวางจิตใจไม่ให้เข้าถึงความสงบ ได้แก่ ความพอใจในกาม, ความพยาบาท, ความหดหู่ท้อแท้, ความฟุ้งซ่าน และความลังเลสงสัย

ซึ่งทั้ง 3 หลักการข้างต้น สามารถสรุปใจความสำคัญได้ว่า "ทำความดี ละเว้นความชั่ว ทำจิตใจให้บริสุทธิ์" นั่นเอง


อุดมการณ์ 4 ได้แก่

1. ความอดทน อดกลั้น คือ ไม่ทำบาปทั้งกาย วาจา ใจ
2. ความไม่เบียดเบียน คือ งดเว้นจากการทำร้าย หรือเบียดเบียนผู้อื่น
