คนที่อยู่ร่วมกันเพื่อความสงบสุข ควรจะมีคุณธรรมคือความเสียสละ คือ เสียสละความสุขส่วนตัวเพื่อส่วนรวม เพราะถ้าต่างคนต่างเห็นแก่ตัว ไม่เห็นแก่คนอื่นแล้ว ส่วนรวมก็จะเดือดร้อน เมื่อส่วนรวมเกิดความเดือดร้อนเสียแล้ว ความสุขความสงบก็จะเกิดขึ้นได้อย่างไร การแสดงออกถึงความรับผิดชอบต่อส่วนรวม พร้อมที่จะเสียสละและอุทิศตนเพื่อประโยชน์ส่วนรวม มีความปรารถนาที่จะช่วยแก้ปัญหาให้แก่ผู้อื่นหรือสังคม ด้วยความเต็มใจ โดยพิจารณาจากความรู้ ความเข้าใจ ความรู้สึกหรือพฤติกรรมที่แสดงออกถึงลักษณะดังกล่าว ไม่ว่าจะเป็นด้านการรับผิดชอบต่อสาธารณะสมบัติ และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ ด้านการทำกิจกรรมเพื่อสังคม เข้าร่วมในเรื่องส่วนรวมที่เป็นประโยชน์ร่วมกันของกลุ่ม ด้านการรับรู้และตระหนักถึงปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นและมีการแก้ไขปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมร่วมกัน
