กฎหมายว่าด้วยการอนุรักษ์เต่าทะเลไทยมีมาช้านานแล้ว แต่ขั้นตอนในการปฏิบัติยังประสบ
ปัญหาอยู่ โดยเฉพาะประชาชนชาวไทยส่วนใหญ่ยังขาดความเคารพต่อกฎหมาย และยังขาดความส านึกถึง
ความส าคัญของการอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรเต่าทะเล จึงท าให้ขาดความร่วมมือในการอนุรักษ์อย่างจริงจัง เต่า
ทะเลยังคงถูกท าลายลงเรื่อย ๆ ทั้ง ๆ ที่มีกฎระเบียบต่าง ๆ ออกมามากมาย ดังนั้นในการอนุรักษ์เต่าทะเล
จึงมีความจ าเป็นอย่างยิ่ง ที่ต้องได้รับความร่วมมือจากชุมชนท้องถิ่น กฎหมายต่าง ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการ
อนุรักษ์เต่าทะเลได้แก่
1. ประกาศกระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ลงวันที่ 14 เมษายน 2490 อาศัยอ านาจตามความใน
มาตรา 32 (7) แห่งพระราชบัญญัติการประมง พ.ศ. 2490 " ห้ามมิให้บุคคลใด จับ ดัก ล่อ ท าอันตราย หรือ
ฆ่าเต่าทะเล และ กระทะเล ทุกชนิดโดยเด็ดขาด แม้เต่าหรือกระนั้นจะติดหรือถูกจับขึ้นมาด้วยเครื่องมือใด
ๆ ก็ตามให้ปล่อยลงทะเลไปทันที่รวมทั้งห้ามมิให้บุคคลใด เก็บ หรือ ท าอันตรายไข่เต่าทะเล และ ไข่กระ
ทะเล ทุกชนิดในหาดทุกแห่ง เว้นแต่ผู้ที่ได้รับอนุญาตจากพนักงานเจ้าหน้าที่
2. กฎกระทรวงฉบับที่ 14 (พ.ศ. 2535) ออกตามความในพระราชบัญญัติ สงวนและคุ้มครอง สัตว์
ป่า พ.ศ. 2503 ก าหนดให้เต่ากระเป็นสัตว์ป่าคุ้มครองประเภท 1 ดังนั้นจึงห้ามฆ่าหรือมีไว้ครอบครอง ซาก
ของเต่ากระ เว้นแต่จะได้รับอนุญาตจากพนักงานเจ้าหน้าที่

ส่วนใด ของเต่า และกระเพื่อการค้า ซึ่งนับว่าเป็นการร่วมมือกันอนุรักษ์เต่าทะเลใน
ระดับประเทศ
- การรณรงค์ให้ใช้เครื่องมือแยกเต่าออกจากอวนลาก Turtle Exclusive Device (TED)
