อุทยานเมืองเก่าพิจิตร เชื่อว่าเป็นที่ตั้งของเมืองพิจิตรเก่า สร้างในสมัยพระยาโคตรบอง ประมาณปี พ.ศ. 1601 ภายในบริเวณกำแพงเมืองมีพื้นที่ประมาณ 400 ไร่เศษ มีลักษณะเป็นเมืองโบราณ ประกอบไปด้วย กำแพงเมือง คูเมือง เจดีย์เก่า ฯลฯ มีสวนรุกขชาติกาญจนกุมารซึ่งกรมป่าไม้ได้จัดตั้งขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2520 ทำให้ภายในบริเวณอุทยานแห่งนี้มีต้นไม้ร่มรื่นหลายชนิดเหมาะเป็นที่พักผ่อน หย่อนใจ และภายในอุทยานยังมีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวอื่นที่น่าสนใจ คือ ศาลหลักเมือง เจดีย์มหาธาตุ เกาะศรีมาลา ถ้ำไกรทอง-ชาละวัน

สร้างเมื่อพ.ศ.2520 อาคารแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ชั้น คือ ด้านบนจะเป็นที่ตั้งของศาลหลักเมือง ส่วนด้านล่าง จะเป็นที่ประดิษฐานรูปปั้นของพระยาโคตรบองซึ่งชาวบ้านเรียกว่า "พ่อปู่" สภาพโดยรอบศาลจะมีต้นไม้มากมายดูร่มรื่นเย็นตา ในบริเวณยังมีศาลาสำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวพักผ่อนอีกด้วย













".....ถ้ำชาละวัน...."

มีที่มาจากวรรณคดีเรื่อง ไกรทอง บทพระราชนิพนธ์ของรัชกาลที่ 2 ลักษณะถ้ำ กว้าง 1 เมตร ยาว 1.50 เมตร และลึก 4 เมตร มีเรื่องเล่าว่า เมื่อประมาณ 65 ปีมาแล้วพระภิกษุวัดนครชุมรูปหนึ่งจุดเทียนไขเดินเข้าไปในถ้ำจนหมดเทียนเล่มหนึ่งก็ยังไม่ถึงก้นถ้ำ จึงไม่ทราบว่าภายในถ้ำชาละวันจะสวยงามวิจิตรพิสดารเพียงใด ในปัจจุบันดินพังทลายทับถมจนตื้นเขินทางจังหวัดได้สร้างรูปปั้นไกรทองและชาละวันไว้ที่บริเวณปากถ้ำด้วย













".....วัดมหาธาตุ...."

เป็นโบราณสถานก่อด้วยอิฐ ตั้งอยู่กึ่งกลางเมืองพิจิตรเก่า ทางฝั่งตะวันออกของแม่น้ำน่านเก่า กรมศิลปากรได้ประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนโบราณสถานของวัดนี้เมื่อพ.ศ.2478 ประกอบไปด้วยพระธาตุเจดีย์ เป็นเจดีย์ทรงลังกา ภายในมีพระเครื่องชนิดต่างๆซึ่งได้ถูกลักลอบขุดค้นไป ด้านหน้าพระเจดีย์เป็นที่ตั้งของวิหารเก้าห้อง ด้านหลังพระเจดีย์เป็นพระอุโบสถ มีใบเสมา2ชั้น มีรากไทรเกาะอยู่ที่หน้าบัน หลังคาถูกต้นไม้ล้มทับหักลงมาองค์พระก็พลอยโค่นลงมาด้วย บัดนี้เหลือแต่ฐานอิฐสูง กรมศิลปากรดำเนินการขุดแต่งเมื่อพ.ศ. 2534 บริเวณใต้เนินดิน ส่วนวิหารได้พบสิ่งก่อสร้าง 2 ยุคสมัย คือ สมัยสุโขทัยและสมัยอยุธยา บริเวณโดยรอบพบเจดีย์รายจำนวนมากและแนวกำแพงขนาดใหญ่

มีลักษณะเป็นมูลดินคล้ายเกาะเล็กๆ อยู่กลางคูเมืองนอกกำแพงเก่า มีคูล้อมรอบเกาะ แต่ตื้นเขิน สันนิษฐานจากลักษณะของคูเมืองและกำแพงแล้ว เกาะศรีมาลานี้แต่เดิมน่าจะเป็นป้อม หรือหอคอยรักษาการณ์อย่างใดอย่างหนึ่ง เพราะตั้งอยู่นอกเมืองและอยู่กลางคูเมือง
