เหตุผลประการแรก การทำงานพิเศษเป็นการใช้เวลาว่างให้เกิดประโยชน์ กล่าวได้ว่า ทุกคนล้วนมีเวลาว่างทั้งนั้น ขึ้นอยู่กับความต้องการของแต่ล่ะคน ซึ่งการใช้เวลาว่างจะเกิดประโยชน์หรือไม่นั้นก็ขึ้นอยู่ที่ว่าเราจะใช้เวลาว่างของเราในการทำอะไรบางคนอาจใช้เวลาว่างไปกับการเที่ยวพักผ่อน หรือการทำกิจกรรมอื่นๆ แต่การใช้เวลาว่างในไปทำงานพิเศษนั้นถือได้ว่าเป็นการใช้เวลาว่างให้เกิดประโยชน์ เพราะ อย่างน้อยก็เป็นเป็นการหารายได้เสริมเพื่อมาใช้ในการใช้จ่าย นอกจากนี้ยังเป็นการนำเวลาว่างของตัวเองมาช่วยแบ่งเบาภาระของผู้อื่นอีกด้วย
