วันที่ 10 กรกฎาคม 2539 ประกาศจัดตั้งเป็น เขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าทุ่งระยะ – นาสักตามพระราชกฤษฎีกาในราชกิจจานุเบกษาครอบคลุมพื้นที่รอยต่อ 2 จังหวัด คือ จังหวัดระนอง และจังหวัดชุมพร
