ระดับชั้นมัธยมต้นนี้นักเรียนควรมีพื้นฐานเกี่ยวกับ
พื้นที่และปริมาตรที่ควรทราบดังนี้

1.พีระมิด (Pyramid) คือ ทรงสามเหลี่ยมที่มีฐานเป็นรูปเหลี่ยมใด ๆ มียอดแหลมซึ้งไม่อยู่บนระนาบเดียวกันและทุกหน้าเป็นรูปสามเหลี่ยมที่มีจุดยอดร่วมกันที่ยอดแหลมนั้น

พื้นที่ผิวเอียง = x เส้นรอบฐาน xสูงเอียง
พื้นที่ผิวทั้งหมด =พื้นที่ผิวเอียง+พื้นที่ฐาน
ปริมาตร= xพื้นที่ฐานxสูง

2.ปริซึม เป็นรูปทรงที่มีหน้าตัด (ฐาน) ทั้งสองข้างเป็นรูปหลายเหลี่ยมที่เท่ากันทุกประการมีหน้าข้างเป็นรูปสี่เหลี่ยมมุมฉาก การเรียกชื่อปริซึมจะเรียกตามรูปหน้าตัดของปริซึม

พื้นที่ผิวข้าง=เส้นรอบฐานxสูง
พื้นที่ผิวทั้งหมด=พื้นที่ผิวข้าง+ 2พื้นที่หน้าตัด
ปริมาตร=พื้นที่ฐานxสูง=กว้างxยาวxสูง

3.วงกลมแบน (Cycle)
พื้นที่วงกลม= pr 2 โดยที่p =หรือ p = 3.14159
พื้นที่วงแหวน= pr 12- pr 22
โดยที่ r 1=รัศมีวงกลมใหญ่
r 2=รัศมีวงกลมเล็ก

4.ทรงกลม (sphere) คือ ทรงสามมิติที่มีผิวโค้งเรียบและจุดทุกจุดบนผิวโค้งอยู่ห่างจากจุดคงที่จุดหนึ่งเป็นระยะทางเท่ากัน
พื้นที่ผิวทรงกลม= 4pr 2
ปริมาตรทรงกลม= pr 3
