ประวัติ
ธงไชย แมคอินไตย์ เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 8 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2501 มีชื่อภาษาอังกฤษว่า "อัลเบิร์ท แมคอินไตย์" (Albert McIntyre) เป็นบุตรคนที่ 9 ในจำนวนพี่น้อง 10 คน ของคุณพ่อเจมส์ และคุณแม่อุดม (ปินอับดุลรามัน) แมคอินไตย์ โดยครอบครัว แมคอินไตย์ อาศัยอยู่ในบ้านหลังเล็กๆท้ายสวนย่านบางแค จังหวัดกรุงเทพฯ

เมื่อเรียนจบ เบิร์ดได้เข้าทำงานที่ ธนาคารกสิกรไทย สาขาท่าพระ ฝ่ายต่างประเทศ และหารายได้เพิ่มเติมด้วยการทำงานอื่นๆไปด้วย อาทิ ถ่ายแบบ ถ่ายโฆษณา จนกระทั่งได้รับการชักชวนจาก วรายุทธ มิลินทจินดา ให้แสดงละครเรื่อง น้ำตาลไหม้ ทางช่อง 3 ซึ่งส่งให้เบิร์ดเป็นที่รู้จัก และกล่าวถึงในฐานะนักแสดงหน้าใหม่ที่มีความสามารถ

ก่อนเข้าวงการเพลง เบิร์ดรักการร้องเพลงมากเคยตระเวนร้องตามเวทีนักร้องลูกทุ่งของ ศรเพชร เพชรสุวรรณ แต่ทั้งคู่ก็ไม่เคยเจอกันเลย

ก่อนออกเทป เบิร์ด เป็นพิธีกรในรายการเจ็ดสีคอนเสิร์ต ร่วมกับ มยุรา ธนบุตร

จุดสำคัญที่ทำให้เบิร์ดเข้าสู่วงการเพลงเต็มตัว คือ การเข้าสู่วงการเพลง เบิร์ด – ธงไชย เข้าแข่งขันประกวดร้องเพลง ของ สยามมิวสิกฟาวเดชั่น ปี 2526 กวาดไปถึง 3 รางวัล เด่นสุดคือรางวัลนักร้องดีเด่น จากเพลง ชีวิตคือละคร และได้เต๋อ – เรวัต พุทธินันท์ เป็นผู้ชักนำเข้าวงการเพลง และประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมากตั้งแต่อัลบั้มแรก คือ อัลบั้ม หาดทราย สายลม สองเรา ในปี 2529(1986) นอกจากนี้ ยังประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมาก ในการแสดง และ ผลงานเพลงอีกมากมาย จนเป็นที่ยอมรับให้ความสามารถ และเป็นที่รู้จักของคนไทยทั้งประเทศ
