นับเวลาไม่นานนัก พยาบาลไทยต้องก้าวไป ร่วมกับวิชาชีพอื่น สู่การเป็นหนึ่งในสมาคมอาเช๊ยน หลายต่อหลายคนไม่อยากรับรู้ แต่มีข้อคำถามอยู่ในใจว่าเราจะทำตัวอย่างไร ไม่ให้หลุดจากประชาคมอาเซียน หนึ่งในนั้นคือ ต้องรู้ ทำความเข้าใจ เตรียมใจและปรับตัวให้เข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน เฉกเช่นทีมพยาบาลไทย คุณลักษณะของพยาบาลและการพยาบาลในประชาคม ASEAN 1. คุณลักษณะส่วนบุคคลของผู้ให้บริการ (Personal Characteristics of Nursing Staff) ต้องยืดหยุ่น เอื้ออาทร และยอมรับซึ่งความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรม 2. สมรรถนะของพยาบาล (Nurses’ Competency) มีความรู้ มีทักษะ เเละมีทัศนคติที่ดีต่อชาวต่างชาติ 3. คุณภาพและมาตรฐานการให้บริการพยาบาล (Quality and Nursing Service Standard)
