เมื่อวันที่ 25 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2536 IECA ได้มีมติถวายรางวัล The International Merit Award แด่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวฯ ในฐานะที่ทรงเป็นแบบอย่างในการนำหญ้าแฝกมาใช้อนุรักษ์ดินและน้ำ และเมื่อวันที่ 30 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2536 ผู้เชี่ยวชาญเรื่องหญ้าแฝกเพื่อการอนุรักษ์ดินและน้ำแห่งธนาคารโลก ได้นำคณะเข้าเฝ้าทูลละอองธุลีพระบาททูลเกล้าทูลกระหม่อม ถวายแผ่นเกียรติบัตรเป็นภาพรากหญ้าแฝก ชุบสำริด ซึ่งเป็นรางวัลสดุดีพระเกียรติคุณ (award of recognition) ในฐานะที่ทรงมุ่งมั่นในการพัฒนาและส่งเสริมการใช้หญ้าแฝกในประเทศไทย ได้รับการตีพิมพ์เผยแพร่ไปทั่วโลก
