ระบบการศึกษาของสิงคโปร์แบ่งออกเป็นระดับประถม 6 ปี ระดับมัธยมศึกษา 4 ปี ซึ่งรวมแล้วเป็นการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานอย่างน้อย 10 ปี แต่ผู้ที่จะเข้าศึกษาในระดับมหาวิทยาลัยจะต้องศึกษาขั้นเตรียมมหาวิทยาลัยอีก 2 ปี
การศึกษาภาคบังคับของสิงคโปร์จะต้องเรียนรู้ 2 ภาษาควบคู่กันไป ได้แก่ ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาหลัก และเลือกเรียนภาษาแม่ (Mother Tongue) อีก 1 ภาษา คือ จีน (แมนดาริน) มาเลย์ หรือทมิฬ (อินเดีย)
รัฐบาลสิงคโปร์ให้ความสำคัญกับการศึกษามาก โดยถือว่าประชาชนเป็นทรัพยากรที่สำคัญ และมีค่าที่สุดของประเทศ ในการนี้ รัฐบาลได้ให้การอุดหนุนด้านการศึกษาจนเสมือนกับเป็นการศึกษาแบบให้เปล่า โรงเรียนในระดับประถม และมัธยมล้วนเป็นโรงเรียนของรัฐบาลหรือกึ่งรัฐบาล สถานศึกษาของเอกชนในสิงคโปร์ มีเฉพาะในระดับอนุบาล และโรงเรียนนานาชาติเท่านั้น
มหาวิทยาลัยในสิงคโปร์มี 3 แห่ง คือ :-
1. National University of Singapore (NUS)
2. Nanyang Technological University
3. Singapore Management University (SMU)
โดยมหาวิทยาลัย NUS จะให้การศึกษาครอบคลุมเกือบทุกสาขาวิชา ทั้งแพทยศาสตร์ ทันตแพทย์ กฎหมาย ศิลปะศาสตร์ วิทยาศาสตร์ วิศวกรรม สถาปัตยกรรม และการบริหารธุรกิจ ส่วนมหาวิทยาลัย Nanyang จะเน้นการศึกษาด้านวิศวกรรมศาสตร์สาขาต่างๆ รวมทั้งวิทยาศาสตร์ประยุกต์ และสาขาธุรกิจ และการบัญชี สำหรับมหาวิทยาลัย SMU จะเน้นเรื่องธุรกิจการจัดการ
