การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีที่ผู้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาต่างประเทศใช้ในการแปลสำนวนภาษาอังกฤษ 2) สถานการณ์ที่นักศึกษาสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษนำสำนวนภาษาอังกฤษไปใช้ประโยชน์ 3) แหล่งข้อมูลที่นักศึกษาสาขาภาษาอังกฤษใช้ในการเรียนรู้สำนวนภาษาอังกฤษ กลุ่มตัวอย่างในงานวิจัยนี้คือ คือนักศึกษาสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ ชั้นปีที่ 1 คณะครุศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏภูเก็ตจำนวน 30 คน ซึ่งมีความสามารถในการใช้ภาษาอังกฤษที่แตกต่างกัน และเครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยนี้ประกอบด้วย 1) แบบทดสอบความสามารถทางภาษาอังกฤษ ของสำนักพิมพ์ Cengage Learning 2) แบบทดสอบความรู้เกี่ยวกับสำนวนภาษาอังกฤษ 3) แบบสอบถาม
