ถ้ำแก้วโกมล อยู่ในท้องที่ตำบลแม่ลาน้อย อำเภอแม่ลาน้อย จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน อยู่ในเขตป่าสงวนแห่งชาติป่าแม่ยวมฝั่งซ้าย มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 51.26 ไร่ โดยกรมป่าไม้ได้ประกาศจัดตั้งเป็นวนอุทยานเมื่อวันที่ 16 กรกฎาคม 2539

สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทอดพระเนตร ยังถ้ำแม่ลาน้อย(ชื่อเดิม) เมื่อวันที่ 19 กุมภาพันธ์ 2544 และได้พระราชทานนามว่า "ถ้ำแก้วโกมล" และยังพระราชทานนามให้กับถ้ำย่อย ๆ ทั้งห้าห้องของถ้ำแก้วโกมล ตามลักษณะของแต่ละห้องว่า
1. ห้องพระทัยธาร
2. ห้องวิมานเมฆ
3. ห้องเฉกหิมพานต์
4. ห้องม่านผาแก้ว
5. ห้องเพริศแพร้วมณีบุปผา
ซึ่งห้องที่ 5 หรือ ห้องเพริศแพร้วมณีบุปผา ถือว่าเป็นห้องที่งดงามที่สุดในถ้ำแก้วโกมล
