การศึกษาเรื่อง “การจัดการป่าจาก: กรณีศึกษาชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนัง”มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการจัดการป่าจากของชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนังและเพื่อศึกษาผลของการจัดการป่าจากของชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนังอำเภอปากพนัง จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช การศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ(Qualitative Research) ข้อมูลที่นำมาวิเคราะห์ได้มาจากการใช้เวลาศึกษาข้อมูลด้านเอกสาร การเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนามการสังเกตแบบไม่มีส่วนร่วมและการเก็บข้อมูลเชิงลึก โดยได้จากการสัมภาษณ์คนในชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนัง ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ใน 3 หมู่บ้านคือ บ้านบางพระ บ้านเพิง และบ้านขนาบนากจำนวน 22 คน ตลอดถึงผู้นำชุมชนจำนวนหมู่บ้านละ1คน รวมทั้งสิ้น 25 คน โดยนำเสนอผลการศึกษาในลักษณะการพรรณนาเชิงวิเคราะห์ (Description Method)
ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า 1.) การจัดการป่าจากโดยชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนัง มีการจัดการ 4 รูปแบบ คือ การสร้างจิตสำนึกให้กับคนในชุมชน การขยายพื้นที่ป่าจาก การให้ความรู้เกี่ยวกับระบบนิเวศป่าจาก และการสร้างการมีส่วนร่วมให้กับคนในชุมชนเพื่อการจัดการป่าจาก 2.) ผลของการจัดการป่าจากโดยชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนัง สามารถสรุปรูปแบบของผลที่เกิดจากการจัดการป่าจากออกเป็น 4 ด้าน คือ ผลทางด้านสังคม ผลทางด้านเศรษฐกิจ ผลทางด้านระบบนิเวศ และผลทางด้านภูมิปัญญาที่สัมพันธ์กับจาก จากผลที่ได้จากการศึกษานำมาซึ่งข้อสรุปว่า คนในชุมชนลุ่มน้ำปากพนังมี การจัดการป่าจากอย่างเป็นระบบ คนในชุมชนล้วนตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของการดูแลรักษาป่าจากให้คงอยู่คู่กับชุมชนอย่างยั่งยืน ภายใต้จิตสำนึกในการดูแลรักษาร่วมกัน ทำให้ทรัพยากรป่าจากยังคงอุดมสมบูรณ์อยู่คู่กับชุมชนอย่างยั่งยืนตลอดไป เป็นการสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงการมีส่วนร่วมของคนในชุมชนซึ่งจะนำไปสู่การพัฒนาชุมชนภายใต้การเปลี่ยนแปลงของสังคมไทยในปัจจุบัน
